So ive had enough haha.
Im currently building a couple of different cars and slowly collecting the parts that I need for others. In doing this it has made me realize just how crazy the price difference is from model to model. For example my xk ute needs a new indicator switch. No worries about this I looked online and found the complete unit with wiring and all brand new for $39. This seems ok. Then im working on my xy van and realise "damn it needs the same switch, oh well for $40 its not to bad" look online thismorning and almost fell off my damn seat. $161 bloody dollars, and thats reduced from 171. Ive had the same thing when quoting resprays, When I told people I was looking to respray my xk sedan I had I was getting reasonable quotes. My mate called the same people about getting his xy painted and the quotes almost DOUBLED. So i have come to the conclusion somewhere along the line people have created this tax I like to call the GT Tax. Any car that can be made to replicate a gt now has yet another tax whacked onto it. Its bloody unreal. So thats the end of my pointless rant, just had to get it off my chest and figured what better place then the pub haha. Cheers Brad

Wow that's interesting. I was contemplating pickin up an old XY and putting a bit of money in it aye. With these news i don't think i will be no more. Are you sure that's happening all over aus? Or just in your area.

eBay is Australia wide mate haha. Respray costs locally are pretty damn ridiculous cause the places get quicker work for more money with insurance jobs but the prices of parts is crazy.
put it this way mate I just bought a bonnet, 2 guards, grille and a front bumper for my xp coupe for 350 and they're mint, Looking at xy stuff I might pick up a bonnet and guard for that price haha

you'd think it'd be the other way around, XK's are pretty rare and fewer in number than XY's, and there's a lot of XY GT clones kicking around. maybe XY owners are just willing to pay more?

It is just like my FPV BA GT. Had to get a new windscreen. Called a few places and told them it is a FPV GT, They quoted me on average around $500. Called the places back told them it was a BA falcon and got the screen for around $260 fitted at my house.

But on the flip side there are more repro parts for XY's...but the price stays high.
I think it would be pretty common to put a margin on XY parts, every man and his dog wants to build one so you would be silly not too.

Whenever I call or go to see a car wrecking I never mention GT. It's a sure way to turn a twit who knows nothing about these cars into a full blown expert who knows all & wants top dollar for everything.

yeah, some cars are funny like that.
For example, if you want a VB or VC or VK tail light assy, just buy a newie off the shelf for cheap. If you want one for a VH, you can't get one. They don't make them. So secondhand is your only option, and they're damn expensive at that. IDK why, the VH was the longest running model of those four too!
