Hi Folks,
If I am in the wrong part of the site please let me know. I have just finished bolting up a Snort Performance stage IV manifold and KKK 600r turbo to my AU Taxi. I dont have an intercooler because the dodgy guy on EBAY failed to mention that delivery would take 10-20 days until after I had paid. I have relocated and hooked up the LPG convertor, fitted a balance pipe to the pressure side of the turbo and the thing runs and boosts on LPG and petrol. Does anyone know what side of the throttle body the ext wastegate is connected to (vacuum or pressure?) The car drives normally up to about 3200rpm and then goes hard to about 4600, then fueling becomes an issue. It is actually running better on LPG than on petrol. My understanding is that the turbo should almost be boosting from idle - so obviousy I am doing something wrong. Any tips or pointers from anyone? Roy |

sounds like pressure is leaking out before turbo or wastegate is leaking.
ie turbo will take longer to build pressure if its got no backpressure. understand?

Without sounding stupid, which side of the throttle body does the line from the wastegate run to? the pressure side (between turbo and throttle body) or the vacuum side (the manifold side of the throttle body)
I have driven the car without the line connected and connected to the first vacuum line you see (just above the throttle body) but I am not sure if this is a good place to take vacuum from - it seems to have some sort of mechanism. What you say sounds right - the turbo doesnt get serious until the upper part of the rev range , and regrettably the fuel becomes an issue just as it starts to boost hard. If I could have boost lower down it would be much more fun. So what would you do to rectify? |

it runs strait to between the tb/and turbo.... under boost its the same any hows, and its not a vacume it uses its a pressure. if you are running an inter cooler you can run it after the inter cooler, as you get a pressure drop acrros the cooler

Does this mean that the incorrect connection on the wastegate might be what is slowing the boost? I though that it would mean too much boost rather than not enough.

There's a few turbo XR6 taxi's floating around in Melbourne. No LPG.
We have 3 however there is another one or two green top one's which are private owners, that's silly though as income versus cost on petrol only. Our cabs are XT mock-ups with the XR6 dash, door trims, steering wheel & gear knob and front bumper. They run on AU III XR8 wheels and are slightly dumped with no spoiler but a nice blower under the bonnet

i dont really understand the question but i think this answers it. the wastegate needs to know when its on boost, so you run the line either from the mouth of the turbo (spool up will take a little longer as its getting a boost reading before the manifold is pressurised, but i've been told this is the best as your cooler can take its time cooling the first charge it will get), or take it from the vacume line at the back of the plenum, but then you may have issues with tuning as it will come on boost too hard and too hot for the engine.

You'll be happy to know it has the std 15 inch steel wheels, three types of tyres (not recaps) where all the signage was removed there were rub marks that the Base station people painted over with paint of a different colour.
It doesnt matter too much out here. I have clobbered a roo at 130k's and an emu at 100k's. I just tek screw the bodywork on and go again. There is no point to a pretty car out here. |

I have checked my wastegate connections - they are correct.
I am still not making boost until well into the rev range. It came on really strong today, 2nd gear and the car started to step out, but the fun was over within a couple of seconds - it just died. I have played with my LPG settings to no effect. I still dont have the cooler hooked up. |

At this stage I have a 3 inch dump pipe an little else. I am waiting for an intercooler, but the guy on EBAY faied to mention that delivery would take up to 20 days. Given the non neighbour freindly nature of the car (it echoes accross the valleys) I have only driven it for about 15 minutes. I dont imagine it would like hot days without an intercooler.

HMm.. I reckon that gas converter would be maxing out under any kind of boost?.... What brank is the converter, most of the complex converters dont go to far as hp is concernd...
you wont get boost right from idle any way?.... |

Convertor is a Landi Renzo sec81 sic I am told these are rated for up to a six litre motor . The turbo has a very small exhaust wheel? I am told it should be boosting very early in the rev range. I am only after 200 rwkw, so I am hoping I can get this with the existing set up. If not I will purchase another mixer and convertor.

I have already set aside funds for a low KM wrecker motor if I kill this one. But I have driven much newer non gas cars that never went as hard as this car N/A on gas. It seems to be a really sweet motor, and it has given me 40,000 trouble free k's in a year. I will not be upset if a few broken motors are the cost of making this run right. when it is running well, and when this car is no longer economical to repair I will put the kit onto an AU Fairlane ghia.

Good news - the car is now working on Gas (low down boost and high end boost) The petrol side of things is a problem because the pump is stuffed.

The problem was the positioning of the balance pipe. It needs to face the incoming air as much as possibe. I just had it at 90 degrees. I noticed straight away that the performance was better after taking advice from EA Turbo ghia and repositioning the pipe
