Hi all
any one read the write up in wednesdays Courier Mail motoring section where Roos became Rhinos about the SA Fairmont GTs well what a load of crap filled uneducated reporting they report as fact the SA GTs had a 5.7 litre motor what the were they Chevs thay had four valve heads back in 1971 I wish and had C4 four speed autos ditto had Glove wheels did they mean Globe wheels what gloves did they wear boxing or driving gloves cost $750 when new wow lets by a dozen of them were known as the Rhino GTs well I'll be they were Fairmonts with Futura trim sort of defeats the purpose he replaced the SA imp gauges with metric ones the last I heard was that the SA GTs had metric gauges from new I have never seen so many mistakes in one article check it out thanks John |

http://www.aussiexport.com/sagt.htm this suggests they had US crate motors with 4V heads. And most had metric gauges but I seem to recall some had imperial gauges. The article http://www.carsguide.com.au/news-and...xy_fairmont_gt does say the Rhino thing wasn't original :

A recent article about the 70s Supercar scare in The Age Drive had a breakout piece on the Phase 3 GTHO. It stated that the XYs came as a Phase 2 and Phase 3. Maybe with all the cuts in the Newspaper Industry they cant afford to use Google to check the facts?

In the 1970s, "4V" meant four-venturi, as in four-barrel carb.
They probably did have 4V heads.
