Default Ford advert that says it all really...

Just saw the TV advert for the Ford Ranger "truck"...good god I hate that term. Holden started it with the advertising for the Colorado "truck". We're Australians...it's a UTE for christs sake...

But I digress. The advert starts with the saleswoman showing us a Toyota Hilux and saying that it was Australias largest selling "truck". But she doen't sell them. She then takes us into the dealership and shows us a Ranger "truck", and ends by saying to the camera, absolutely honestly, the following little sentence that shows what has gone wrong with Ford in a nutshell:

"Who said bigger selling is always best?"

No. No no no no. You're not selling prestige limited run exotics...you're supposed to be selling volume, to TRY and be the
best selling"...you idiots...

I get your point, but I see as a way to say that sometimes you need try the up-and-comer, that could well be the next best seller.

That latest Mazda 2 ad has the world champion sign spinning guy in it, it has nothing to do with the Mazda 2 it's just marketing.

It's sad because there's literally no need for them to remind people that the Hilux sells way more. That's like admitting defeat. The only time an opposition vehicle should even poke a nose into another companies advert is for comparison purposes to show why your product is superior.

She's saying don't be a sheep..try something better. Many Hilux customers buy on name alone even if the car is under powered with an 80's esc 4 speed auto as it was until recently.
Offering $200 putting their money where their mouth is. Go Ford!

Next we'll be walking on sidewalks and filling our cars with Gas (not the LPG kind)

Last time I checked hiluxes were the least powerful out of the major dual cab utes available, and had the worst towing capacity as well, yet still was over priced, mind you this was 6 or so months ago, so the price may have changed by now. But it's basically an entire generation behind Ranger/BT50, Navara, Amarok, D-Maxand triton (I think).

I think so many get sold due to mine sites still using them due to their base models having virtually zero electrics in them.

Which is sort of fair enough, but when everyone else has electric windows in their base model and hiluxes don't... Why would you buy one??

Oh and as much as im not a fan of calling the ranger a truck, it is replacing the F100, which has always been called a truck, so fair play to them for that.

Traditionally a "Ute" is the term for a CAR based utility vehicle with a single cab. I.E Falcon, Holden ect.

The term "Truck" (as in Pick-up Truck) is what body on frame single, super and double cab models like the Ranger/Hilux/Colorado ect should be called.
I actually hate it when people call those models "utes" because they are not car based.

Rightly or wrongly Cars and Girls have always been associated with each other.

Look at any motoring event such as F1, V8SC and any car show World wide.

Who cares what they call it. I don't believe in the old chestnut that if you mention the other brand, you are giving them free advertising, todays consumers are worldly, they know what other cars are available in the segment and will shop all of them as needed. This approach by Ford is rather clever in avoiding the yelling screaming "BUY IT COS WE SAY SO!" for a YOU look, and YOU make the decision. Empowering the consumer, rather than guilting them into making a purchase.

I have to disagree there, the hilux is proof of this, on paper its garbage, yet is best selling in its class.

Another that comes to mind is the Captiva, there's only 2 reasons one would buy a Captiva, brand loyalty (It's Strayan!) or price (It's cheap aye!)

A worldly consumer would not buy a Captiva.

But you are assuming that other consumers, like you are looking for the "best" car? Whats the "best" car? Some buy on price (captiva all over) or looks, its quite handsome for such an old design.
Its like saying your fridge is "better" because it has LED lighting, but I don't care, mine doesn't, it still does the job its intended to do.

Not sure who signs off on these ads but what is it about Fords ads thatbare so lame? Maybe the Ranger ads could mention Ford are one of if not the biggest "truck" manufacturer in the world. Show the DNA. Ford owns the ute, pick up, truck sector.

Ford should hire whoever did the Jeep ad. The one where the guy shouts over the cliff..." I just bought a jeep" and another guy answers "me too"

That ad is marketing gold!

Could this promo bite Ford in the butt?

If someone was hell bent on buying the alternative they could just take a Focus for a spin, then go and buy an i30 / Mazda 3 / Corolla and then ask for their cash.

Not reading the T's & C's but I assume that's how the deal works??

I hope the dealers are well rehearsed, this ad will do the hard work and get people into the yard, they just need to seal the deal.

Also, isn't the current RRP for the Hilux around $49k and the Ranger $55k? Save 6 grand and get $200, that script almost writes itself.
