Default Festiva '94 WB front wheel noise

Recently, I reversed out on a hard left lock in my five speed manual Festiva '94 WB and when I drove off I was confronted by an intermittent clicking, clacking, ratchet-type metal sound left side front.

This sound is only present for the first k or so each day. Then it goes away, as though once something has re-aligned itself it's okay.

I've mounted a very small sound file (mp3) at <http://www.supload.com/listen?s=wGPaZt>. It's only 10 seconds long, but it will give you an idea of what I'm talking about.

I'd appreciate hearing from others who've experienced a similar problem. My suspicion is a cv joint and / or wheel bearings. Others think it may be the gearbox (only six months old), or the diff.

Thanks in advance.

If it does it when turning with far lock steering its probably driveshafts (CV).

Sounds like CV from the clip.

Stick your head under and look at the condition of the boot behind the wheel hubs. If they are shattered and you can see the guts of them they are probably gone already.

I have been told the best way to check CV's is to hold the wheel in full lock and drive in reverse, sorta like a reverse U turn.

If you are in Sydney I know a place that does Festiva CV's very cheaply.
