it has just occured to me, something might be a little weird about my car. Now i understand that the series II EF's came in late 1995 (october onwards) and the fairmont models were given the tickford (xr6) engines in the model run, but something doesnt seem to add up with mine.
Its built in 1996, but its missing the tickford engine that should be in place? its surposed to be a series II so shouldnt it have the passengers air bag too? Only occured to me today after replacing the radiator this weekend. |

Not sure about the engine but the passengers airbag was an option, My 1996 EF XR6 doesn't have one....

It is a fairmont ghia (as indicated under my username), and im pretty sure the passengers side airbag was standard on the ghia.

EF II Ghia's should have PAB (passenger airbag) standard, and the tickford driveline.

What colour is the rocker cover and does it have a "T" stamped on the front of the head?

Check the engine number and the vin plate to check if the engine has been swaped over.

Under the plastic cover that goes around the front of the head onto the power steer pump you should see a T cast into the head at the front, thats the teller of the Tickford engine. Do you have the leather interior and the ghia badges on the dash and door trims? It is quite possible that you have a fairmont badged dolled up as a ghia.
I'm not 100% sure about EF's but our EL Ghia has Tickford motor and the 3.45 LSD, I haven't seen an EL Ghia without that stuff. |

ef II came with ticky, PAB, 3.45 lsd and alot of them came with leather. check the boot chrome, there should be a ghia badge there, and in the front doors there should be ghia badges above the speaker, if it has a red/chrome badge with an F in it, its a fairmont, the ghia looks like a crown almost.

ive got a mottled sort of velour interior, kinda like granite. Ill have to wait till it cools down before i can check the head, ive just finished changing over the radiator, hoses and thermostat, and now ive got temp fluctuations. Done a bit of reading on here and it seems the aftermarket (i just grabbed a tridon one from the parts supplier) cause issues like this. kinda makes sense because i was running the old thermostat (with the new radiator) last night while i put some coolant flush through it, never had a problem. Now today its being a ИИИИИ :o |

You said the rocker cover is grey... not a good sign (for being a Tickford head, unless the previous owner went for a "sleeper" engine look lol). AFAIK the Tickford rocker cover is red.
Fairmonts had chrome on the boot too. Mottled velour interior sounds like a fairmont to me. Ghias probably were able to be ordered with a velour interior (a VY Calais at work was optioned with velour for some reason), but I don't see this being the right explanation. It really does sound like a Fairmont with a couple of Ghia badges thrown on it. |
