Western Sydney International Dragway at Eastern Creek is gearing up for an explosive post-Christmas party for fans of horsepower when it hosts Round 3 of the Top Fuel and Top Alcohol National Championships on December 26/27.
One of the biggest names in Australian Drag Racing, Duel National Champion Brett 'The Boss' Stevens will be attending the event when he lines up in his immaculately presented Kitten Car Care Products Ford Mustang Funny Car in the Top Alcohol bracket. While Stevens intimidating presence on-track will be felt as much as ever, off the track fans may notice a change in the demeanor of one of the most competitive men in the sport, brought on by the birth of his first child on December 10. "There is definitely going to have to be some changes both at home and at the track with the birth of Skye (Stevens) but I wouldn't have it any other way," Stevens said. "My wife Kath and the baby are both fit and healthy and home from hospital now, but unfortunately won't be able to make the trip to Sydney for Boxing Day." "We will have our first family Christmas at home in Brisbane and then I will be straight on a plane and back to business racing in Sydney." "The Top Alcohol bracket is the most competitive it has been in years with us Funny Car drivers really taking it up to the Dragsters that have dominated for so long." "The Championship is wide open and a good result in Sydney will put the team in a strong position heading into the New Year." "Going on some of our recent testing we are expecting to go well into the 5 second zone (for the quarter mile)." As well as the Top Alcohol category, the Boxing Day Drag Racing Bonanza will also feature the ever-popular Top Fuel Dragsters that will reach speeds of over 500km/h. Highlighted by some international entries in Top Fuel, the bracket has been dubbed the 'USA Versus Australian Top Fuel Showdown' with two of the worlds leading drivers from the worlds richest Drag Racing Championship, the NHRA, set to take on the best of the locals. Over subscribed fields in both Top Fuel and Top Alcohol, as well as various other support categories, will ensure an action packed 2 days for lovers of raw horsepower with a strong possibility of records tumbling. The spectacle of the countries fastest cars making an earth shattering runs down the quarter mile drag strip is not to be missed.
