Default BA Intake pipe.

Does the pipe from the filter to the TB from a BA fit an AU?

Ta,
Mike

Basically yes. I used the airbox lid lip from an EF and a bit of radiator hose for the breather pipe.

The intake pipe on a BA is very restrictive. That's why almost all of us have gone custom made 3 Inch (72mm) pipes made from aluminum and silicon. Even the Territory intake pipes are better, there is no restriction around where the pipes bends over the rocker cover.

I used to have a 3" intake pipe on my old EL 6. Had huge idle issues (was running a big cam, wade 1004 110) but after I sold it the new owner changed back to the stock item and solved them with just that. I can also say that I never noticed any difference in power apart from a nice induction roar.

I will cool it using a cooling duct from one side of my air dam. Should be fine!

I'm interested in using a BA intake tube as well, but just the section leading to the Throttle body. I'm going to use 3" pipe from the airbox, then I want to fit the BA upper intake tube.

Whats the difference between the BA and AU upper intake tube? The BA tube looks nice, but I cant decide if its narrower than the AU's. Also does anyone know if the Territory intake tube is higherflow than the BA Falcon?

I have a BA one on my AU, does look better..... I reckon its bigger than the AU one but your biggest gain would be removing the limitation in the airbox itself....

Its 55mm restriction is a cheap mod anyone can do..... I just removed it and put in 75mm PVC pipe in with a bell mouth (better airflow) and XR8 snorkal and aftermarket panel filter....

i know the standard AU intake is

100mm opening and closes down more towards the bend

Tickford intake is;

150mm opening and stays around 100mm all the way to the airbox

BA/BF XR8 and Turbo

i think uses the same size as the Tickford intake

G&D use the factory AU piping on their air boxes. I think that says something for the flow of the standard tube. Bigger isn't always better - just bigger. The bigger tube may reduce airspeed, therefore affecting torque. Yes, you may end up with 1 or 2rwkw more PEAK power using a bigger intake tube, but less actual power overall.

Do all sx and sy territory models with the barra have the same intake pipe?
Is it worth swapping out the stock tube for one on a bf2 xr6?

Terri are different but will fit but they sit higher...
You will need the spacers (where the 2 bolts go in the manifold) as well.

They are supposed to flow better too (the Terri ones)

I know this is old, but what the hey.

The Territory pipe differs from the Falcon pipe. Where the Falcons pipe crosses over the intake runners on the manifold, there is a molded relief on the underside of the pipe to allow the pipe to sit low against the manifold for bonnet clearance. This provides a slight restriction to airflow, but more so a disruption to smooth airflow. The pipe on the Territory has no molded relief on the underside of the pipe, as there is increased bonnet clearance in the Territorys engine bay.

They can be fitted to Falcons, both AU and B series, though there are issues with rubbing on the bonnet, as the pipe sits higher on spacers to clear the manifold.

Before I sold my AU, I used a BA intake pipe. I also used an EF airbox bellmouth, cut down and smoothed, with a 3.5"-3" exhaust reducer to connect it to the BA flexpipe (3" pipe fits straight into airbox bellmouth) which removed the restrictive AU bellmouth. Compare an AU bellmouth/lid with an EF bellmouth/lid and you'll see what I mean. The EF uses a tapered tube bellmouth, which at its widest point is about 3 inches. I had also smoothed the inside of the airbox (upper and lower) in the path of airflow, used a Fram panel filter, Tickford intake snorkel and custom air deflector.

I did all my intake mods before any proper exhaust mods (did have a press bent cat back), and I definately noticed an improvement to driveability and fuel consumption, especially on the highway.

I run the xr6t snorkel and an fg egas intake pipe that does not have the resonator and it does the job on my bf.

thanks to those that replied to my post , today i was lucky enough to find a genuine tickford airbox lid with the genuine alloy bellmouth in it off a xr8 ( supposedly off a 220kw), and i got it cheap . So now to see how much of a difference it makes when combined with all the other intake mods i've done . cheers
