Default Running the 1/4 what do you remove for weight reduction?

What do you remove from the car to run a 1/4 mile.?? Is there anything in the centre console?Does the jack come out...or spare tyre..or cargo barrier?

If its not needed , remove it, every bit counts when chasing that .1 quicker, basically in a street car, its not really worth the effort.

I am alittle different to some that try and milk 1/10th from a street car. I leave everything in the car, stop at the nearest servo to the track and fill up and check all the tyre pressures. If you cancel out weight and tyre pressure variables everytime you race it is technique and weather conditions only. Cancel out as many variables as you can to see if any new mods or driving style, launch rpm etc make the car faster over the 1/4

I look at it that whats the point of a 10sec time slip (if the car say runs 15s in street trim) if you have great big slicks and the car resembles a bare shell, bragging means nothing when a 120Y beats ya at the lights casue you are in full street trim.

I agree however I think that the spare tyre and jack is accepted practice for most people. I've run with it both in and out of the car and the difference is usually less then .1 anyhow.

I would usually just take the sub out (to pass scrutineering because it sits loose) and run on minimal fuel usually around quarter of a tank or at least less than half a tank. I did take my spare tyre out the first time I raced but havn't bothered since.

Yes I agree, that seems to be our experiences too, there is a poofteenth in it.. The reason I leave it all in is Willowbank is an hours drive for me, heaven forbid I get a blow out on the way and Willowbank doesn't have facilities for your excess parts to be locked up.. Unless you are going with a support car that can store your goodies for you while you are lining up, at Willowbank atleast you either leave it at home or just in an unattended pile in the pit carpark...

This is a good point.I have a cargo barrier, towbar, spare, jack centre console full of stuff, glove box full, car matts, stuff in the seat back pockets.

Would these really make a difference?...Also if I remove these does it really represent a true perfomance street car or just a 1 off drag situation.I would rather be able to run an optimal 1/4 every time not just once.

If you have to unbolt it... then its part of the car and should stay in. Only exception is large sub boxes that may be bolted in but probably should be taken out for safety reasons.

Absolutley nothing. I even race with the melways and change in the car.
Really, at the power levels we are talking, it's something to do to pass time before racing starts.

Tow bar if you mean like the removable bit of the hayman reese then yes, they are quite heavy, sapre wheel and jack yeah you can, the cargo barrier will be a bit of weight, the rest of the stuff will not add up to much I am sure.

Maybe in a V8 but in an auto I6 you can feel the weight of a spare wheel on the launch. Its noticable enough when you see the 60' time go from 2.3 to 2.4

Just a quick question if I may.

Whats the average weight saving between a steel rim and an alloy rim.

Wouldnt the extra weight drag the cars speed down higher up though?

Thats the whole point, not enough to really worry about, a new cam would give bigger gains then weight removal.

As the guys have already said above, spare wheel and jack.

It goes without saying that any other loose items in the car should be removed, but mainly for safety reasons. You don't want to hit the wall after an axle snaps, then have a 15kg toolbox come flying at you from the back of the car....

All up, you'll probably take out 30-40kg max which is probably worth 1 tenth. Race weight for an AU I6 wagon would be 1800kg+ (?)

Yeah I leave everything in. All the times I have run my cars everything is in there including the spare, melways etc.

If you want to go as fast as you can then strip it all.

Its all a case of if you can be bothered or not.

exactly lose your own spare tyre first then worry about the cars spare.

I run it as it is just anything that is loose and could hurt in an accident is removed thats all.
