Default XR8888 - cars 1st run down the 1/4

Hi all...took the car out to Adelaide International Raceway tonight for the Street Drags.

I wanted to see what the car could do so I put someone else in the car who has done a bit of drag racing.

Only managed 3 runs...

1st run on the SP9000's was a 14.566

Decided to change to the Nitos which seemed to make a difference.

2nd run was a 13.426 with 3rd run a 13.458

Now I know what the car can do it gives me something to aim for.

Timeslips attached , my car 986,....2nd run was against a XR6T with about 330rwkw....3rd run was against a BAGT that the owner said had 299rwkw !!!

Anyway pretty happy with those results ...now looking forward to Heathcote in April.

Cheers

Brad

PS...got some vids too...put them up when my brain is working.

good effort !!! If we have a grudge match you have to use the SP9000s so I have a chance
I think with a bit of work you could have got the goods with the 9000s

Brad,
Excellent work son, that's a great time. The 1st run, was it just a case of being new at it or were the Dunlops too slippery? I find the SP9000s pretty good. Also, do you have any cold air induction? Again, great effort!

Excellent result....good runs their. I'm very suprised at the difference between runs using different tyres. Overall...well done. Can't wait to see future times with a bit more track experience.

Cheers.

It was great to see and finally meet you down there Brad! The car looked and sounded great. The 13.4 is very respectable....amazing what a change of tyres can make!!

Thats a huge difference on just tyres. Certainly something to think about.

Did the run "feel" that much better as far as grip is concerned?

Wow ! Awesome times Brad ! Sorry I couldn't be there, I would've loved to see you crack those numbers.
Maybe next time.
I reckon there might be another few tenths to salvage with that mph.

I think the tyres definitely helped, but there was an element of the driver knowing what to expect and preparing for it in the 2 second run.

I think there is more to come out of this car as well with some more practice and refinement.

I'd believe it...when i did my runs on sp9000's...i was losing time getting wheel spin in 1st and 2nd...I know if i used better tyres, the times would drop.

Cheers.

Seems to be the general opinion of the 9000's unfortunatly.

Not to start a flame, but I have suspected for a while that the Dunlops the performance Fords are dished out with are partly to blame for the average 400m times these car get initally. Brad is not the first person I have witnessed to make a dramatic improvement on their time by simply changing the rear sp9000's . The Dunlops are a great tyre IMO, but terribly compromised for drag application.

I think their a good all round tyre. Their quiet, have good grip in wet and dry conditions, and have a reasonable life if looked after. But like you said, not much chop on the track. Actually, running a 18" rim on the back is really no good for drag racing. Better with 14 - 17 inch wheels running tyres with higher sidewalls. Unfortunatley for those that run brembos, thats not an option.

Cheers

Default SP9000s

Guys,
I did my 13.5 with slightly deflated(27lb) Dunlop SP9000s. I bogged it down on all three attempts with these Dunlops using a 2500rpm launch. Next visit out I'm going to experiment with less pressures and more rpm. There's atleast a tenth or two left in it with the Dunlops.

I did all my runs using 38 psi....with 1000 rpm launches and got a 13.62 at wsid. Next time i'm going to play with the tyre pressures a bit...but i'll be using better tyres anyway. Will be interesting to see the difference.

Cheers.

Brad had his Dunlops nitrogen filled so deflating was not an option. I agree this would have helped but still think a change of tyres would give the best result.

Hi all ...thanks for all the positive comments about the car.....just want to reiterate (spelling) what I said in my initial post that I was not driving the car it was the guy who did all the mods to my car (Simon at Morpowa).....

Reason was I really wanted to know what the car could do before I jumped in...I was going to a run however it was getting very busy and the wife and kids were getting a bit edgy.

Cheers
