Smile MB XR5 or Ecoboost MC?

Looking for some feedback on choice between the XR5 Mondeo, and the MC Mondeo with the Ecoboost engine.
Has anyone owned both who could perhaps offer some opinions? Not really fussed about interior appointments, but rather drivetrain comparisons. Turbo 2.5L vs Turbo 2.0L Ecoboost. Both seem to offer power and torque within similar rev range. Is fuel economy similar?
Thank you.

For a start, XR5 is manual only, Ecoboost is auto only.
What is your preference?

My XR5 runs at 8.8l/100km after 90,000K of data logging.
Weekday commutes in CBR and occasional weekend trips interstate (3hrs each way).
I can do CBR to Port Melbourne without a petrol stop, and have 150Km range left over.

Plus you can modify the hell out of the 5! The early Ecoboost hasn't, as far as I know, had the enthusiasm as the later ST variants. I don't believe there is an aftermarket tuner for them. The 5 however has a few options!

If you want more info on that, there's 2 places you can go. The XR5 forum www.xr5turbo.com which is a local forum dedicated the XR5 and now ST variants or search on Facebook for a guy/workshop called OEM Denied. He is a pom who did training at Ford UK and specialises in 5/ST (plus others) but also sells aftermarket tuning equipment through his website www.focusonperformance.com.au
Have fun!

That's pretty reasonable economy. I don't really mind auto or manual, I suppose wanted to know the differences between the two cars in terms of driving dynamics, general performance, etc Cheers

The best we saw was about 980kms and that was all highway driving. Dropped a little around town.
Running a tune, even with the extra power, doesn't necessarily drop economy 😊

Driving dynamics will depend on model (MB Vs MC), MC spec level (no info), usage pattern of vehicle (molly coddled, exercised, flogged), distance covered (normal wear and tear), and just simply age.

I believe the XR5 series had a more sporty suspension tune over the lesser MB models. I have found it well controlled and tuned to GT touring rather than outright sportiness, or mushy/floaty at the other end of the scale. Very impressed with how it just gobbles up the miles, esp. between CBR and QLD on inland route. Much more livable than a mates Falcon BA MkII XR6 Turbo.
When bought new in 2010, it felt very similar to the equivalent top line Mazda 6 Sport, but much nicer inside ........

Can't comment on Ecoboost variants.

Our Ecoboost is brilliant. Great around town and absolutely the best car I have driven on the highway. Fantastic handling, quiet, and rides well. Economy with short trips in town (less than 5km each and typical inner city dross) is 11 l/100km and on the highway it is mid 7s.

My choice MC Ecoboost easily. Newer technology just as much power / quicker and better fuel economy (if driven nice)

Can remap ECU if you want but IMO not required.

Cheers
