Default Sticky Suggestion!

I know many get tired of answering the same old, same old questions. But we all need to keep in mind that there are so many people joining us here, who don't know what we seem to take for granted. I mean just check out the 'for sale' thread to see that there's a massive amount of e series cars for sale. If they can't cough up enough $ for a B series, you can bet they'll join us in the great land of AU!

Perhaps we should have a sticky set up with links to those asked often.

A few for the list could be, and feel free to add.

1. XR8 185/200/220 identification
2. Fluid recommendations engine, diff, auto, etc etc, for the AU range.
3. What diffs the AU range has

etc, etc. What do you think?

Cheers,

GK

I always thought your How to's should be stickied in one thread too GK, i know a lot are in your build thread but newbies probably won't find it there.

Another good idea.

So a possible list is.

1. XR8 185/200/220 identification
2. Fluid recommendations engine, diff, auto, etc etc, for the AU range.
3. What diffs the AU range has
4. Snorkels and intake mods
5. Single / Double Dins

Also what about?
6. 6 stacker issues
7. Radio Code Issues
8. Rear Shock Mounts
9. Rough Idle
10. Climate Control Display
11. Plugs and Leads

Good idea GK, but at the end of the day, those that can't/won't use the search button, also won't be looking for a "sticky".

Perhaps you're right, but I reckon it'd still be good to have the info in the one place!

A great idea! A FAQ sticky.
I'll second that all the how tos be placed (including a 'how to use search' ) all in one place. I don't think they belong in the FAQ though.
When i'm thinking of doing some mods etc i'd love to be able go to the one place for some thought starters, how to's are great for this and they can save newbies plenty of cash by giving them the confidence to tackle jobs alot of people would just take to a mechanic etc...
So it's not as simple as using the search engine for the how tos because you sometimes really don't know what you want to do to your car thus what to search for.
But this isn't about how to's so i'll shut up now.
Merry Christmas Everyone.

Very fair call, John.

How many service threads have still been created despite the sticky that's up there for servicing what and when?

So maybe a sticky with the links to all the how tos posted here by various contributors would be a good thing then?

options for front end conversions ie low series to high series bonnet conversions for the different grilles etc etc
and whats needed to do XR conversion on the front end

also whats involved in BA front end conversion as that seems to get asked a bit too

replacing bulbs behind the dash cluster and climate control

what shocks and springs are legal/good for lowering

decent tyres and their ball park price ranges in all wheel diameters

biggest tyres that fit under our guards

biggest wheels that fit (20s up front 22s up the back)

think thats enough from me

What about a listing "Common Modifications & Repairs to AU Falcons" under a separate heading (Similar to "Common Problems with AU" ) as found at top of AU Forum (Sticky's?)
I would appreciate finding all the modifications you guys have done/talked about in one area, rather than catch up with them through reading all the forum replies.
I'm sure that you only require the link to the sites that you have already created.
like fitting foot lights for AU Forte, replacing lights in dash, Instrument cluster setting changes, etc, etc.
Have appreciated reading & completing some of the modifications from this forum,
You all must be congratulated in the assistance you pass on to us AU Owners.

Thumbs up

It's all about helping each other Greg. This forum is a great place to hang out. Lots of colourful characters to meet, mods to plan, do and work out how to pay for! LOL!

There's always something new to learn too, that's what I like about the place. From day 1 people are keen to help out others. That's something pretty special I reckon, and sadly something becoming rarer these days.

Cheers,

GK

3.11 was never a standard ratio on falcons so if you do have that ratio it has been done aftermarket. From EA on there were only 3.08 3.23 3.45 available from the factory I am not sure about earlier models but have not heard of 3.11 falcon diffs

Correct!

3.08, 3.23 & 3.45 are the AU factory possibilities. Any other ratios on an AU have been done elsewhere. If your wagon is stock, it has a 3.23 diff.

Sorry, I was mistaken.

It's a 3.23 with 134BA written on the sticker.

A lot of this stuff should either already be available on aufalcon.com or should be located there as part of the 'Articles', 'Technical Documents' and 'Workshop' sections rather than as stickies here.

Maybe the following headers could be applied to this section of the forum with direct links to those sections on aufalcon.com:
AU Falcon - Articles
AU Falcon - Technical Documents
AU Falcon - Workshop

Otherwise we are going to generate a massive sticky with a plethora of duplicated information that would take time and effort to decipher, which circumvents the original intention of having the information that is readily accessible. Case in point - the sticky 'common problems with your AU'. Seriously, how is anyone going to have the time to decipher and find faults they can associate with amongst the (at last count) 409 posts in there?

This conversation on diff ratios is yet another classic example of information being repeated over and over again because of the lack of use of the search button. I and others have already posted this information up before.

Or am I missing the point completely?

What's the point? I've been muddled up by trying to digest the 409 posts?

Just kidding. You make a fair point. The info needs to be easily accessable, just how we do that exactly is still unclear.

Are you serious. You want 11 seperate stickies one for each of those?

Some of those come under the same category. It we start to to sticky this many threads, it becomes conjested like peak hour traffic, that the only way around it is to have a 12th sticky that tells you how to navigate your way around.

We already have 9 stickies. As JC said, that's what the search function is for.

So many technical issues. Is there a need for example to have a topic specific to Shock mounts? What information are you going to have other than the fix?

IMO, its overkil, its not funny. Start a technical thread, where most of what you have suggested, could be listed. Then start a mod thread for the rest. People can use the search function to go deeper into it.

Ultimatley, this will be Caspers decision. Keep the idea's coming.
