Was coming home from sydney going downhill onto a bridge and nearly went under a truck. Havn't noticed it before but the steering wheel was shaking 3cm either side. Quite a scary experience.
Is it just warped disks or is there another problem? |

Sounds like you have other problems as well ... stuffed wheel bearings can cause similar symptoms to warped rotors.
When driving is there like a roaring noise coming from the front ... can be moreso with the wheels turned. Best way to check this is jack the front of the car up and grab the tyre at the top and bottom ... and pull in and put ... if there is movement in and out from the top and bottom of the tyre ... that's a sign of a stuffed bearing ... also spinning the wheel while jacked up there'll be a whirring noise as well. Remedy ... replace the entire front hub ... best to do both fronts at the same time. Have you had this happen before???? but not as severe???

If your disks are worn to limits then yes 3cm either side might happen. I had that on my EL Fairmont Ghia V8. Disks were well worn. Soon as they get some heat into them its shake rattle and roll. I put new disks on and it was sweet as.
Hopefully someone here can tell you the minimum thickness (I think it is 22mm, but I'm not sure).
