With out creating a mini engine war,
As an engine enthusiast I would be really interested to hear peoples thoughts on comparing the 351 Windsor to the 351 Cleveland. What's the strong and weak points, what's the key differences and which ones are know to sound better? |

This is an Aussie forum so expect the 351C to win by a landslide.
If it were a US forum, the 351W would take the landslide victory.

If you threw this into the Cleveland or Windsor section below ....... Now that would be entertaining!!!! GO ON ........ DO IT!!!!!
Me? I like Clevelands. Why? XA,B C for starters and parts/performance are readily available in Aus. Sound wise? NOTHING comes close! | [/url] |

The Clevo was a well respected motor in the states even if its life was short lived.

Cleveland here...better heads, bigger pushrods (i think!) stronger allround, windsor has thicker cylinder walls (again I think)
Good reason the Boss is so popular The original engine for the car is the best option |

Either will do. I opt for clevo as it is factory in my car.

Windsors rev better and unfortunately there are a way more good parts due to a strong US aftermarket - the windsor was popular there for 40 odd years. As much as the clevo is an inherently stronger design, there's more options with a windsor.

I'm trying to find an old Windsor to tear down and get a better understanding of as I really appreciate all these old style engines and would like to have 1 of each to cross compare and learn from.
Does the Windsor have the same sort of note as a clevo? |

A windsor doesn't bellow like a clevo, it has a raspier/sportier note to it. They also spin up/rev a lot easie (not sure whether this applies to 351W).

in terms of "options" for windsors well the only thing i can think of that is avaliable for a W and not a C is an aftermarket block (which is under development), as far as the rest goes well there's tonnes of aftermarket support for the C as well as the W.... I can't think of any aftermarket advantage for a W over a C other than the block...

Ok, to a total engine novice, what are the differences between these 2 engines?
And what car came with what engine.... ie XW GT, XA etc etc. I've always wanted to know about this but felt too stupid to ask. |

I know it's not what you wanted, but give me an old style BOSS engine.
Windsor bottom end with Clevo top end. These things are the best of both worlds, it's just a shame that the necessary induction manifolds are not only rare, but expensive.

In fact you could argue the Cleveland style aftermarket alloy heads are better than the Windsor equivilant. You can only use one brand of crank, rods and brand of heads at a time...
