Default 12/10/09 HSV Bathurst VE (blown version) Top Gear UK >

Whether you like the other side or not, tonight's top gear UK has the Supercharged Bathurst version (just stickers I think) of the HSV VE and also the Maloo ! (SBS / 7.30pm)

Might be interesting either way / last show for the season aswell.

http://www.sbs.com.au/shows/topgearu...show/topgearuk

Would love to see the UK guys sample some of the FPV stuff also.

Awesome, good to see some aussie muscle on there. How funny was the hay bales in the rear. Oh and we need the F6 on there.

The HSVs are only on the show because they are available in Britain as Vauxhalls. You wont see an Aussie Ford of any kind on the British Top Gear as you can buy one there (pity) : .

If I remember right it was a Maloo that went out and set the land speed record for a ute so that would make them correct.

Thats the one. You have to put your money where your mouth is and prove it before you can lay claim to a title. Yes the FPV may be able to beat it but they have to prove that.

As every FPV ever made is speed limited to 250km/h it will never happen.

If they (or anyone else) modify it then it no longer qualifies.

I thought it was great to see Aussie cars getting a good wrap, and the fact the Maloo was quicker then the DB9 in the hands of the Stig was pretty impressive. If only Ford would export the G6ET...

Also I have heard that clarkson and walkinshaw are mates, whch would explain the bagpipes whilst the stig was driving (sly jest at the scot from clarkson) . i dont think the f6 will get a look in on the show for the reasons you have stated and because this was obviously a love-in between uncle tom and clarkson. :

I still felt a swell of aussie pride watching the Bar-thurst and the Maloo doing their thing round the track though. :

Yeah even know they are holdens. it was good to see some aussie cars on there and all three (Hampster, Clarkson, and Captain Slow) like them. (yes alittle bit of aussie pride) though can someone please tell them its Bathurst not Bath-Hurst.
Even know it wont happened I'd love to see Clarkson/Hamsters thoughts on the F6 ute or sedan

So i am assuming the Maloo is not speed limited (at least not to 280km/h), whats the reason behind FPV's being speed limited...???

No, all VEs are limited as well. The record setter was a VZ.

If a car is limited to 250km/h then it only has to be tested up to 250km/h and have components such as tyres, wheels etc that are rated up to 250km/h.

If the F6, for example, were unlimited the tyres would cost a fortune and it would be illegal and insurance voiding to put on cheaper ones.

It just saves a lot of money.

Apart from the phase 4 GTHO the only falcons ever made that would have been capable of exceeding 250km/h were the BAs and later so they were the first that were limited to that speed.

Exactly, so they are both equally fast, as fast as their electronics will allow.

Many manufacturers is the search for the fastest car, bike etc have dropped electronic speed limiters off for the speed attempt. I am sure if they were to do this for the ute title it would still count as long as no performance enhancing changes were made.

Some could even argue that a road tyre with a higher speed rating to allow such a test in the interest of safety would be allowable, as long as it does not increase performance (eg same size in order to not give gear ratio advantage).

Standard FPV tyre is Z rated and therefore 240+km/h, how much the + means, I am not sure, the next rating is W at 270km.

The supercharger on the Barth-hurst VXR8/Walky Clubby sounds wicked. If there is a supercharged V8 in the MY11 GT and it sounds half as good, Im in (just cant bear the VE looks wise)

Was a great segment - even though I'm a Ford man I still felt proud of the Aussie cars. How funny is it that a Maloo is as quick as a DB9 around a track?

Personally I didn't like the sound of the supercharger on the VE though - sounded like a strangled cat. (Sounded good at low rpm but the top end sounded so funny).
