Hi all,
Of late I have been noticing more and more new local highway patrol cars getting around WITHOUT the usual radar device hanging off the side window - I cannot see them anywhere on the car. Typically the new Commodores. I saw a white one the other day without the device on the side and today I was scared by a bright purple VE parked around a bend on an on-ramp to the F3 at Somersby - just where the 80 zone goes into the 110 zone. Whoops! Of course I was acellerating in the 80 zone for the upcoming 110 zone. Double whoops! There he was sitting quietly on the left shoulder with only the rear of his light bar flashing. Not sure why. He was jammed up against the armco railing... Is there some kind of new technology that allows the radar units to be hidden now? Can they detect to the front AND rear? |

yes, there are radar units that mount on the inside of the vehicle, right up against the A-pillar and are about 2" in diameter

I have seen the units that have been inside the unmarked cars for some years that sit above the dash next to the pillar, however I have never seen the marked vehicles with them.
Is this what is being used in the new marked cars? |

As mentioned i am fairly sure they are mounted inside the cabin, and from memory can now get you outta their back window

I am sure that you will also have noticed that there has been quite a sizable increase in hwy patrol activity over the last fortnight or so. The police are targetting the F3, and Central Coast especially atm....
You have been warned... Being proactive - let's keep this thread from turning into another cop-bashing thread. We have all been there before, and know that threads of that ilk all end the same way. |

they hide behind all the trees and grass, alas most people don't see them until its too late : i see them everytime i go to my mums at lake macquarie. its funny when people fly past ya and the slam on the brakes because they see the yellow vest and bar lights

i grew up around cops all my life, my dad was one both military and state for 30 years before he retired, and now my brother is going in next year. he passed exams last week. : simple plan, don't be a tool and they'll leave you alone.

I saw a FPV GT, white with blue strips on the Ebor to Grafton road, couldn't see a radar then noticed it was missing the drivers side fog light. Guess where the radar was hiding.

I frequently travel well in excess of a 1,000 km per week visiting my rural clients. I am grateful for two things:-
1. Cruise Control it reduces the tendency to have lead in my right boot and 2. Highway Patrol marked or unmarked, it helps to keep those with no respect for their own lives or anyone else's to behave a bit better. One only has to look at the number of fatalities in the last week or so, admittedly there is the possibility of other causes than speed, factors such as fatigue contributing to the carnage. But if we combined with the police can eliminate or reduce one factor from the roads it is going to enhance our chances of getting home in one piece to see our families again. To all members please take care have a great Christmas and an even better New Year and I hope that we don't lose anyone on the roads over the holiday period. |

I read that speed is a factor in about 30% of all fatal crashes.
This means 70% WEREN'T speeding. So If we got all teh non speeders off the road we could lower the road-toll by 70%. There are 3 types of untruths Lies Damned Lies and Statistics |

There's a black unmarked Turbo Territory with rear shades and tint cruising the M7 on a regular basis at the moment.
Bloody hell they get up and go when they get the boot into it.

I have seen a hotup R33 doing the rounds around Liverpool and Bankstown,
they have pull several cars over already. If i'm not wrong those are the cars they impound from the hoons. |

NB:- You can buy a safety vest for your car to Euro world standard for as little as $5.95. Do a google image search - "EN471".
