Wink March 2018 VFACTS: Big brands bomb

https://www.motoring.com.au/march-vf...s-bomb-111908/

"Once again Holden sold fewer than 1000 Commodores last month, but that figure is likely to decline further since we understand almost half of them were homegrown VFII Commodores now out of production."

I don't know anything about the Eclipse Cross, but do they make anything that is even remotely close to being a segment leader?
The Pajero Sport seams to go well, but every other model seams very, very average compared to their competitors.

Do the job seems to be fine with the cars that are top sellers.

Likewise all models from fifth-placed Ford (almost 6700 sales – down 2.4%) lodged sales slides –
except Mustang, EcoSport, Everest, Transit and Ranger, which found about 4065
to lie within 200 of HiLux as the nation’s second top seller.
Interesting....

And those numbers would include a lot of demo models registered by the dealers.

I wouldn't normally admit this, but I really do like it. Not an expensive car and it doesn't pretend to be, but a great SUV nonetheless. I can see why Mitsubishi are on the up.

Mitsus are simple, fairly reliable, decent warranty and are usually cheap compared to their competitors. Its almost the Toyota philosophy if you ignore the price.

Wasn't always that way. 20 years ago their transmissions had poor reliability. Ask anybody who owned a TE/KE Magna/Verada.

Mustang (705) plus Ranger (4065) + Everest (??) probably out sold the whole of Holden
but at an average transaction price of well above $55,000...Now that's impressive.

Holden’s top selling vehicle in March was the Colorado in 20th position with 1487 sales. How have the bean counters and head honchos at Holden get this so wrong? I really can’t see them getting out of this one and yet they are still tipping millions into Supercars!!
I wouldn’t want them running my business that’s for sure!

what's even more hilarious is that when faced with these facts, Holden supporters
desperately point out that Ranger is 60% of total sales is dangerous and that Ford
is imperiled just as much as Holden.....

I'm gonna check to see if Holden is still in the top ten next month before responding...

Lol yeah having your best selling model in the most popular category is worse than having your best selling model in a dead one.

They had really high hopes for the Equinox, but after being on sale for a few months now they sold like 370 of them. That is a massive failure. They were hoping to sell about 1000 of them a month.

Look out for some massive discounts on it soon to clear old stock, just like the Astra that also tanked.

Holden is going down the gurgler fast.

But,if you take Ranger out of the equation, they would be in a bit of trouble.Toyota on the other hand has strong sales in ALL categories. They are very, very lucky that Ranger is doing exceptionally well.Cheers

Its not just luck, the Ranger is designed and engineered in Australia - so a very good vehicle.

And so is Hilux a very good vehicle, both worthy competitors. But as I alluded to,if not for Ranger, where would Ford be? They have nothing that is doing remotely as well as Ranger in sales.Cheers

Luck has nothing to do with it, good design, promotion and most importantly, perseverance.
lf Ranger was just another Meh tuk tuk like the previous Mazda design, nothing would have changed.
Now we see Everest consistently selling over 400/mth even with its high +$55K starting price.

and while were playing ifs and buts, let's take VFII out of the equation...
Oh wait...

I'm not surprised with the Equinox's average sales performance; whilst it's a massive improvement over the Captiva, it still is saddled with stale looks, harsh cabin plastics and a engine that's a tad unrefined when you push it along.

Presumably the Holden Equinox is the same as the Chev version which sells quite well in the States.
All a drop in the ocean compared to F Truck sales though.

http://www.goodcarbadcar.net/2018/04...ehicle-ranked/

Must be good to be a Ford dealership in the States.
