Hey.. prob completely left field but i have a limited E series.
1989 EA HO Phase7 Only one of the six cyl versions from Phase Automotive VIC, based on the fairmont ghia, five speed manual, factory recaro's, sunroof, momo wheel, and does high 14sec 1/4. Unfortunately isn't real straight, bloke before me used it as a daily and it had nearly 300,000 on the clock when i rescued it. Has all the authentic papers with it which match the car vin and engine no's. Just thought someone might be interested. |

Um well ok...
In 1989 Phase Automotive consisted only of a few ford employees, that were buying new cars at cost price, and then modifying them in there own workshop, in an attempt to produce cars aimed at the more "Involved" driver. (Some one who would have bought the GT in days gone past.) The idea was to complete prototypes in order to have working examples to show, and hopefully sell back to ford, who would in turn sell the design as a production car. The Phase Automotive resume' shows previous prototypes of the Phase 5 (XD) and the Phase 6 (XE) in years before the EA was released. As far as i know from what i read in the papers with the car that i bought there were only four Phase 7 prototypes completed, - S Pack six cyl - Fairmont ghia six cyl - S Pack eight cyl - Fairmont ghia eight cyl Mine is build no 002, as specified on a decal under the bonnet (and backed up in the papers), and was the only one out of the four to have the factory sunroof, and one of the two with the Recaro's. (Both the Ghia's) I believe that all of the prototypes were manual, and all came with an LSD. All but one of them came with the bonnet vents (to premote cooling/colder intake) which look to me to be the Cosworth vents. The Phase 7 project went under due to no approval for from ford (who were short of funds at the time... hence no new ute model with the introduction of the EA) and so the prototypes were sold off as second hand cars. Phase Auto only produced one more attempt at the Phase, which was the one prototype of the Phase 8 (EB). They have since had a hand in the modifying of several hotter falcons, (eg. the Allan Moffit supercharged V8 ED) but as of today are re-named, and simply a body kit manifacturer. The papers indicate that my car was used as the pace car for the 1992 indy. I tried to track down the other Phase sevens a couple of years ago, I found that the S Pack V8 was cruizin the streets of sydney, the other six (S Pack) stayed in Melbourne, but was written off in roughly 1995. I could find no trace of the remaining car, though a wisper on ebay led me to believe that the car was sold to a collector and exported to the big U.S of A. One of only two articles that i found written on these cars indicated that if the Phase 7 was released the bulk of the modifications would be to steering/suspension, and asthetics.. I believe however when the whole show went under, the boys played a little on the performance side. (As you do!) My Falcon has modifications to the intake for instance that take advantage of the bonnet vents... and i am yet to find a standard EA that pulls 14's so your guess is as good as mine to the rest. This is about the extent of what i have been able to drag up. Hope it's interesting |

That looks great! Do you have any better pics of the bootlip spoiler? It looks quite unusual.
I've seen a picture with a Phase 7 and Phase 8 in a car yard. I'll try to dig it up in a couple of days.

Well as i say, i can't vouch for what internals were played with by PA, but the air box has been chopped and tubed, a pair of 6-3-2-1 extractors are fitted, and it has a full 2 1/2" system with a high flow cat. (all were on the car when i bought it.)
It has a 3.23:1 LSD and a five speed manual. As i said... i guess Phase Auto's have some answering to do cause i haven't found one with standard int that runs 14's. |

This is getting interesting..I want to know everything about anything phase autos related.
If you assume there was a phase for every number, there would be.. Phase 1 - Phase 2 - Phase 3 - Phase 4 - Phase 5 - XD HO Phase 6 - XE HO Phase 7 - EA HO (4 made - 1 x I6 S Pack, 1 x I6 Ghia, 1 x V8 S Pack, 1 x V8 Ghia) Phase 8 - EA GTHO To my knowledge there was no Phase 9. The number plate is still available at vplates.com.au aswell.

Phase Auto's were one of the few companies to pick up on FoA's success with the phase GT's
They were, from all the information I have available to me at least a 'bodykit' company. Through Ford the "Phase's" were always handling optioned (HO) GT's which received little in the way of bodykitting (well apart from the bib front end, and droopy tail on the XY models) The kitting was added only as a necessity, rather then cosmetic. The offset scoop on the XW's were added as a cooler for the brake booster. The PHASE phenomenom with FoA died a quiet death with the cancelation of the Phase 4's following the 'supercar scare. There were always some that wanted this to continue onwards, and some sought to improve their companies bottom line courtesy of Ford's original hardwork. This is not putting phase auto's contribution down - to the contrary - I find them quite an interesting addition to the Ford landscape. Indeed, I am most certainly interested in extending my knowledge of them further - have done a fair amount of research into car companies looking to establish themselves by offering aftermarket upgrades on FoA products. AWD Turbo'd XF, BMC, John Goss special XD (yes - XD. FoA did the XB's), SVO, AEC etc etc |
