Suzuki Jimmy

I know used car prices are crazy at present, but whats the go with little Suzuki Jimmys?
SIL bought one around 5 years ago for his daughter and stored it, she was only 13 at that time. I take the point of a small 'girly' runabout, suitable for her life style and beach.
She now has her licence and a very careful driver but terrified of driving this as all the time people are pushing ph numbers, money in her face wanting to buy it.

They have always had a bit of a following and people are more keen on the older design, plus the wait time on a new one over here is nearly 12 months. Both my daughters want one eventually. They are also surprisingly popular with farmers and hunters here as they will easily get further down a track than the big 4WD's and they are quite capable off road with their light weight and ladder suspension.

I love the new Jimny, I don't even have any interest in 4x4ing, it just looks cool.

One of those things with a bit more balls under the hood would suit me fine, turbo conversion

Just after she got her licence and had driven it twice, I aws over with her and stupidly sat in the drivers seat. Yikes the fury of the young woman.
She is very protective of her baby Jinny, takes after a lot of you lot with washing polishing etc.
Aint no way it will be sold.

I think they used to call them " The wine Bar special because they couldn't'
stay on four wheels".

Told the girl the same thing, she was terrified due to alcohol intake. Her Dad, 2 brothers and I have promised she gets caught DUI the car comes to my place for 6 months. without her.

15 years ago we had a 2 door grand vitara SQ series and that thing was white knuckle inducing on the freeway.

Very unstable at 80+ speeds.

The Jimny is even smaller.

A mate rolled an 80s sierra into a garden fence when he came down a hill to fast and understeered.

I'm not sure how much better the new one would handle at high speeds.

We currently have a 4 door Vitara and they are great.

Very reliable...same can be said for the short wheelbase too.

Anything tall will fall over in a corner if you try hard enough...

The 'falling over' was a hatchet job by a US consumer mob (as in 'the mob' not a bunch of kangaroos) and the video does a decent job of explaining it.

I had one a while ago, ditched it before I got it on the road. Wish I still had it, but not that much. They're mountain goat-ish in how they get around off road and that's a big part of their attraction.

Now, nowhere to keep it. Got too many cars around here as it is, and another coming tomorrow. If I found one for cheap however, I'd make (a small) space for it somehow. Mrs. Schtoo likes them, which would make it an easier sell*.

* She's saddened that I'm getting rid of the current ute, a 2000 VS V6 and replacing it with another ute. I've got her over the line with the newer one being safer, more comfortable, etc, etc. The "it's a turbo" isn't a selling point for her unfortunately...

I actually saw one of the new models in green advertised privately for 60k, don't know if it sold. They are hot hot property.

I didnt want her to get one, she lives in Broome and does a fair bit of distance driving, she wouldn't be able to overtake a road train or caravan.
Would have to sit on 90, having said that, awesome little 4WD, go anywhere pretty much.

My old man had one of the first ones, think they were an LJ. 2 stroke 3 cylinder from memory, again, great for fishing but don't go on the highway.

Nephew had one, we swapped the larger motor into it. It made the thing go. He put fat muddies on it with split rims and we tried but could not bog the thing anywhere. It would climb trees I reckon, but never tried.
He sold it to some bloke in Mexico, (Vic) for $4K more than it owed him.

Geeze that thing was a underpowered deathtrap, 4 wheel drums, leafs on all 4 corners and such a short wheelbase.
Made my trucks ride seem like a limmo in comparison.

Wild Brumby would have been a more appropiate name as it would try to buck you out of the seats on every pothole.

If she wanted a new model ones I can say , yes they no power for overtaking but you don’t have to sit on 90. They handle good compared to the old ones but still bad for a new car.
120 is ok on a freeway as long as it’s not a very windy day. On The Bucketts Way I would be a middle speed driver.
I couldn’t keep up with the average dual cab driver. But would still be faster than a lot of people in normal cars.

I believe they are working on a longer wheelbase version to come in the near future which may help the ride a little.

You can park anywhere and fit in small gaps. The steering is a bit heavy when squeezing in those tight spots.

If money was no object I would have kept my off-road modded Jimny and then get a slammed one modded for city driving to park next to it. I don’t hate the mini J wagon kits they have.

I wonder if anyone is actually paying those prices. I know a lot of people in the Jimny group getting late 30s early 40s for second hand ones, myself included.
Never heard any official sales of the ones around the 50 mark.

Actually in the Facebook group someone asked if the people asking big money are dreamers. I replied saying I’m thinking of selling and asked anyone who recently sold theirs to let us know what they actually got.
I had someone see my post and send me a message offering to buy mine. He sent a $1000 deposit sight unseen then picked it up a couple weeks later.

Povvo spec new Jimny review

Though you lose a lot of stuff for only $1500 less, lols at reviewer complaining about lack of safety features. **** off the autonomous emergency braking, as long as it has brakes operated by me via a pedal and a lever that'll do me.

That's the one for me I reckon, looks good in white, but I also really like that yellow/green colour it comes in.

A 'street' focused one of these without the rear seats would make a pretty unique delivery vehicle for a company.

I'd flog the **** out of that, because it's so underpowered you could absolutely rip on it everywhere - that's how I drive the Thailux, it's so slow that every intersection is like I'm at the Christmas tree at the drags, I can already see the skimpy dressed lady with the race start flag now

So the Chinese couldn’t think of an original design so they combined a Jimny and Bronco and didn’t even try to hide it.
