I Got me a au2 and wondering whats the cheapest and best way to get lots of power at the wheels, the car is currently stock

How fast do you want to go?

How much money do you want to spend?

Now double the money and halve the speed and you are getting closer.

well im only a p plater and i just want to work on it over time i got roughly a grand to play with but i dont want to spend it all on the engine

Dont worry, you wont. $1000 isnt going to do too much to the engine at all.. Cam maybe (although Wades dont seem to work too well on AU's) so the JMM cam is only about $600. That leaves $400 to get an exhaust.

Hmmm... better do what Jonbays said and double it.. then a cam, exhaust and intake and enough left over to lower should be on the cards. That would be enough to get some much improved times.

Sorry mate, mods are not cheap so you will need at least $1000-$1500 just to get some serious results.

i sorta realised that with the au's, but um what are your takes on air induction and filters etc..?? do they get much power because they can be relatively cheap

without exhaust mods they are near on useless for an I6 Falcon. They sound great, may give a hint of improved throttle response but for outright measurable performance increases... nothing.

I agree with Casper, shop around for a 2.5 inch exhaust system, and a set headers. A K&N filter for your standard air box, & a Tickford snorkel, is a good start. Shouldn't be to far out of your price range. I have these on an AU2 ute, not exactly rocket science, but it works.

Go to your local exhaust shop (all my exhaust systems done by Liverpool exhausts) I trust them, they have a very good reputation, and do a lot of one off systems for racing. My system cost $500, supplied & fitted. Headers from them cost $350 approx, $250 for a high flow cat, prices may vary. Talk to others, ask who did the work & are they happy with it, & get them to do the job.

My 2.5" system with hi-flow cat and headers + tip, cost about $1000 or so thru Liverpool Exhaust. However next you'll prob be better off going a different brand of headers other than the Hurricane ones I have. Grab a set of Pacemaker Comps or check one of the site sponsers JMM for their Race Series ones (i think thats the right one).

As I posted mine cost me $500 fitted, perhaps I should have said that was price for cat back. Prices for headers and cat, are as quoted when I purchased them, a few months ago. I should also mention that I have had 5 cars fitted out by them, and had no dramas. Try and get a Lukey or Redback system fitted for that as $500, is price of supply only, I know because I priced a number of pre-fabbed systems & if you fitted it yourself you would quite possibly have to have it "tweaked" to fit properly.

1000 bucks would get you a set of headers/cat/2.5in exhaust system, but you wont get much change from it, or you can get a cat back system for as cheap at $310 if you look in the right spots..

$310 cat back exhaust
$495 king springs
$100 pod in airbox set up

and then you can speak to casper and get an Aufalcon.com sticker

So if I upgrade the exhaust/headers & add a K&N air filter it will have alot more torque down low & sound awsome???

What is a 'Tickford snorkel'??

If it's a 6, don't count on it sounding awesome. Just louder

Tickford snorkle is bigger than the stock snorkel Allows more air into the intake. You notice some difference. My car feels a little more responsive at the throttle

Go the headers with 2.5 catback zorst( shop around prices vary). The next best bet for you would be to go to www.aufalcon.com & look in the workshop area. Falkeen wrote an article about using the induction set up from the BA don't expect miracles but it does work & good for the budget.

Pig pipe-$250 liverpool exhausts
SS induction-$200 off a now turbocharged AU xr6
Advance headers-2.5 exhaust $900 Western mufflers 9681-2889
Queensland leads 8.5mm $80@cresent motorsport
dba slotted discs $85 each-coventry
XR6 MK2 turbo plugs $13 each Thompson Ford
ebc black stuff pads $110 front and $70 rear
king springs XR super lows approx $450 fitted
Braided brakes lines All round $280 cresent motorsports
Camber and castor kit $295 wholesale suspension
Redline Air filter$80 cresent motorsports.

I think thats it but car has around 140rwkw and yet to come is headwork and performance chip.

When i bought the car 12 months ago it was fitted with motorcraft leads and it had a annoying flat spot and yes i reckon they are worth getting.

Yeah, spend the money on the Carby! The Standard carby on the AU just isn't up to the task. You want a nice big flowing one. Try and fit it straight after the pod filter, makes for better air flow throught the catalytic converter!

Mine have been good since I installed them a few months ago on the EGAS engine ... I also have the redline filter from Crescent Motorsport as well .. much cheaper filter than K&N ... and does the same thing.

I put Iridium IX plugs in mine ... but the XR6 T MkII plugs are the better temp range plug ... and cheaper for some reason (still an Iridium plug).

Well i did some looking around at the Pacemaker 4 into 1 and comps and there was SFA between them and as for the tube width and length personally for the price saving and reality the advance are basically the same as pacemakers but a fraction of the price but hell im happy with the result and the money i saved so ill just move on and drive my car.

Aren't we talking six cyl pacemaker comp Six into three into one?

They are the go that and maybe JMM race series with the LOOOOOONG secondaries running under your feet
