Default Dodgy listings on eBay

Hey all,

I see these all the time, probably a good time to remind everyone that these are scams to get info out of people.

eBay listing (note they have 0 feedback and are in Victoria)

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Ford-Territor...item3cadd395d7

and the Carsales.com.au ad from Queensland:

http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/private/details.aspx?seot=1&R=8691290&silo=-1&__Ns=pCar_RankSort_Int32|1||pCar_Price_Decimal|1 ||pCar_Make_String|0||pCar_Model_String|0&Cr=&trec s=4&__N=1216%201247%201252%201282%204294966463%204 294966190%204294765165

I've lodged a complaint with eBay about this, and it'll most likely be taken down very soon. These people are trying to get personal info from you so they can steal identities, etc. So be careful peeps.

I don't know why, but they are always Territory models, and nothing else. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough.

Ok, good point. I didn't exactly, but I can't see what else they could be doing it for. I am guessing they want additional contact info that they can use illegally. They don't have the car, so that's all I can think of. Is there anything else they could scam out of you this way?

Usually scams where they pretend to have a car all they are after from "everybody who responds/wants the car" is a couple of grand deposit. Basically anything they can get out of someone for nothing.

The pictures have changed. The car was red/burgandy this morning. Now it's black. I'm almost tempted to ask to go down and see it :P

Those sonsabitchas! They changed the details and the pictures of the car. The carsales ad was the same car, colour and rego, that's how I found it. They've since changed the pictures to another NSW registered car, and it isn't a Turbo any more either.

By the way, the carsales ad is legit. The proper owner also listed on ebay earlier this year, which is where this seller has pinched all of the photos and details from. If you search the QLD registered cars rego into Google, you find an old ebay listing by the proper seller.

Here is the original legitimate sale:

Guys, this is all I can now find on it, but it's pretty damning:

Item Specifics: - Automobiles
Changed Date of Manufacture from 2007 to 2006
Changed Kilometres from 62000 to 115000
Changed Colour from Orange to Black
Changed VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) from 6FPAAAJGAT7T22193 to 6FPAAAJGAT6Y6250

When on the listing, this is under 'View all revisions".

Ok yes I saw the revisions page now.
Yes I think you have definately found a scammer.
The price is too cheap too.
The excuse they are "too busy" to check eBay for messages is a load of bull crap. eBay emails you the message, so you never have to log into eBay to retrieve messages.

I doubt eBay will pass the info to Police, they will simply delete the auction and ban the IP address.

Yep, the price is always the first thing that alerts me. They always seem to put a nice car up for less than half its value, so they must be suckering in idiots for it to work.

How about this one? Sounds too good to be true, can't find any additional info on Google though. Hardly doubt an SS with leather will go for this!

And same email caveat too.

Seems those last two eBay listing are now gone

There is a computer crime reporting website somewhere.
Hopefully they are aware of the latest scam?
And im hoping eBay actually reports it to the Feds.

Unfortunately, they work on the premis that someone will think its a great deal... send/bank a deposit... and thats the end of the line...

There's an old saying that says "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is..."

Buyer beware...

Use all options available when buying a car off ebay and interstate (inspections etc)... and do your research (google, REVS, etc)... might cost you a couple of hundred bucks... but will save you heartache and reduce the likelyness of you getting ripped...

Shame that there are sharks out there that scam people - as ebay is a solid place to buy and sell cars... just gets a little mucky with the scammers out there scaring people off...

Not so much a dodgey listing as a dofgey operator this one, found a car on ebay that was well under retail, anyway made an ebay enquiry and got a call from a salesman the next. So far so good.

Anyway I explained my situation to the salesman and how I'd like to proceed with the sale, he tells me I need to put a deposit to hold, I say is a hunj ok no he says but 5 will make it good. Asked for banking details to which I was told they didn't like gicing out bank account details, strange but ok I suggested CC, all good. Anyway, was told that they would hold the car pending finance, 60% of purchase price, and I explained that as I'm an interstate truckie I'd be their the following week, they're in Sydney.

Now Friday the finance guy calls me, so all is still well, situation explained he asks me to get my paperwork to him as soon as possible, this is Friday and even though I know my accountant outside of work he wasn't able to do it all straight away. Anyway I'd also explained to the finance guy that I would likely be in Sydbey early in the week as he told me he needed to witness me siging any finance documents.

Mind you I'd actually offered to fly up over the weekend to sort it all out but was assured by the salesman that their would be no need.

Come today, this morning, I had a friend pick me up and drive to CarNetAuctions in Smithfield, walked in and saw the beast sitting in the third row back, she was impressed, my friend, and so was I.

Now I go into the office and explain that I'd put a deposit, or so I'd been lead to believe, on the Rangey, 02 Vogue, and the fella behind the desk asked if I'd like to take it for a drive, ummmm ye was pretty much my response, so he said he'd get some fuel put in and bring it out, took my licence and I went outside to wait.

Now in the meantime the finance guy turned up and we had a quick chat, great, he went and spoke to the salesman who wasn't in to make sure all was well, ummmm no.

He comes out, the finance guy, and says mate the cars been sold, I said ye I know to me, he says no to someone else..........what the?? I said why did the salesman take my credit card details and then get you to call me to discuss finance.

Long story slightly shorter, none of the guys in their could understand what the FFFF had happened, so they suggested I call the sales manager, so I did.

What I got from the sales manager was the most unbelievable foul language that I have ever heard from someone that is supposed to be as diplomatic about something as possible, at least until I/the customer becomes a little over the top. I didn't to begin with, but when he accused me of making up the story as I went along I basically hung up on him.

I can't believe that instead of givnimg some story about "crossed wires" or "miscommunication" he's gone straight on the attack. Anyway if you have any dealings with these guys just make sure you get things in writing or record any conversations, because they seem to be a firm believer of "The customer is an idiot, treat him like one".
