Post CAT problems.

Got news from my mechanic i have had a bloked CAT for the last week turns out i have been blowning pieces of it out the exhaust. What damage can a bloked CAT do to your engine and what kind of prices am i looking at?

new cat should be $250 od fitted.

and lol @ me being right. I had the same problem with my EA about a year ago, but the exhaust was blocked, and the car would keep dyeing. I doubt it would have done any damage to your motor.

Not so much damage to the engine, it just creates massive back pressure in the exhaust manifold and makes the car run like crap.

Prices, new you're looking at a few hundred, shouldn't cost more thatn $50 for a second handy.

Most common cause of blocked cats is a stuffed O2 sensor. It makes the car run rich, which kills the cat (Cats and unburnt fuel don't mix).

It was putting stuff all power out because the cat was blocked.

get a piece of rod, take the cat off and smash the inside out,

Extra high flow, huge power gain

Oh yeah, the power gains are massive!!! Mate you would be lucky to see an extra 5kW with a hollowed out cat.

And as mentioned before, highly illegal. Not only that, but for a 5kw sacrifice you are actually saving a sh$# load of emmisions from ruining the environment (and us).

Dont to it, its a croc.

it couldnt be blowing bits of cat out the back of the exhaust, the mufflers would catch it!!!!, unless it was the rear muffler that was crumbling.

Yeah it does, my EA didn't make it home when it started playing up. I t would die and then it would restart but would take a while, then eventually it just wouldn't start. My brother went to it the next day and it started and barely made it home. I guess it cooling down must have helped or something.

You find alot of the rattles is the shield over the cat, THe cover steel is only pressed on and uses a pressed sheetmetal join to hold it in place, no welds or bolts. If you car is low enough when you scrape it the seam loosens and the covers rattle.

I guess but it'll be 100 times more work than just knocking the guilty area back nice and tight.. That and the floor above it might get a tad warm..
