That's a lot of car for 40k.

But jeez there's going to be some VE's on the market once vf is released. Should be some very good deals on ex lease VE's I'd guess.

Holden dealer in Newcastle today had emblazed across their window. SSV ute $39990 drive away.

The clearout begins. A lot of cars to move before the new one arrives so I hear.

Yeah, I have a feeling that Holden are really up against it at the moment, no one wants to buy VE with VF here next year, massive drop in resale.
Still, they will all be sold and maybe those that normally buy second hand might be lured into the new car market, step up and get a newby.

Looked at latest aerial of Broady (July 8) absolutely no vehicles stored on the grass - great sign.

Yep that is an incredible deal (excuse the pun). It is perfect for all of those on here who have complained about a N/A V8 ute with all the goodies not being available. I wonder how many will buy one.....

I don't see why you're making such a big deal over it - It's the povvo pack SS which is basically just a $36k SV6 with a V8 engine.
From memory the equivalent VY/VZ SV8 was around the same price.

If they were offering SSV's for that price then alarm bells would be ringing.

Edit: Just noticed it's for the manual only - Auto is what, $2k on top?

i believe the v8's are cheaper to bring in than to make the v6's for holden! So v8s should actually be cheaper than v6s!

Ah, I see what's going on now SS is $40,990 and SS-Z is $52,990 - Holden is repositioning trims..

Steve, are you able to find out how many SS cars we're actually talking about...
is it like only 300 or 500?

Seriously, you know exactly why people here will not buy one...it doesnt matter if it had 400kws and was $20k...no blue oval = not interested.

Actually, if I was looking for a new car i'd be very interested.

The problem is, I like my money in my bank account.

It's still a hard sell for Holden. SS's haven't gotten any better on fuel in the last year. It'll still use 15L/100km combined cycle, cost $120 to fill it and go 500km on the tank. Bloody hard sell if you ask me.

And it would be all the same if Ford still had a 5.4 Boss XR8 for sale at $40,990 drive away,
the seats don't come in purple or some such nonsense excuse not to buy it..

Ford would sell even less XR8's than Commodore sells SS's. It's really a nothing car now. Too big, too heavy, too much fuel. Only enthusiasts buy them brand new, and even they're getting thinner by the day.

Have to be filling up at over $1.50 p/l to get close to $120 per tank. I filled up tonight from the red line and it cost $70 ~ gotta love E85 fuel =D
Its good to see Holden trying hard to get sales, first the super low interest rate and now a cheap entry SS.

SS Now uses 12.2 l/100 km combined which is a fraction more than XR6 Turbo.
The gut buster is the urban fuel consumption of around 17 l/100 km, with both of them,
use them in the traffic and you can almost see the fuel gauge move while you drive them...

And we all know how much ADR fuel consumption figures mean, especially as you say, once you start driving them for even 5 minutes in stop/start traffic. I payed $1.68/L for 98 octane the other day. Imagine paying that and getting 500km or so to the tank every week. :/

I drove like a saint on the way home and managed to get 16l/100 which is depressing since i couldnt drive any more efficient if i tried but it was stop and go traffic. I have been told it will get better once the car is ran in, my hopes arent high... If I use the shoutty pedal aand then look at the fuel gauge it can shift as much as an 8th within a couple set of lights. I havent seen fuel consumption anywhere near 12l/100 but my car is only 1000km (2.5 tanks 0.o) old so only time will tell.

Really thats not too bad as my EL Fairmont Ghia I6 was averaging 22-25L/100km when I bought it, but that was all short trip and stop start suburbia travelling from the previous owner.

They are pretty hard to get tho. Holden does not build many for stock, so I dunno why they are even bothering to advertise them.

They are a good rep car if the boss is paying for fuel and your doing 90% highway. Id have one anyday, but waiting patiently for VF.

It has what FORD cann't offer ,a V8 !! V8!! to get a V8 sedan for that price is fantastic!! maybe the SS isn't selling, and Holden are trying to move stock. To get a V8 in a Ford it has to be an FPV,which is out of the average buyers price range.. The SS is in price range.....

I think I was averaging about 16L/100km in my EL Falcon when I was living down in Newcastle.

If only Ford had a cheaper 8 cylinder to compete... That's a great deal. It's actually cheaper driveaway than a base model 86 ($42K)....
