My speedo cluster needs replacing - speedo dies and then the car intermittently cuts out (I've had Ford replace the VSS already).
I've found a speedo cluster with slightly more KM's on the clock than I have so I'd like to swap it over. Can anyone tell me how this can be done? What do I need to take off first? The speedo cluster seems quite embedded into the console. I don't have a manual but I'm pretty good with tools. Any help very much appreciated. Thanks Nick |

you have the entire replacement cluster? ie fuel, temp, speedo, rev
if so from memory on the top of your steering column there is a plastic cover that pops off under that there are two hex screws holding the cluster in place. Once these are removed then you have to pull the top of the cluster down first I seem to recall it being fair stuck in there but it will come out. I think i remember seeing on another post that ford have to program the new cluster to the car anyway, i could be wrong though If this is what you are talking about i could go take some pictures tmro if needed |

Thanks for your advice DragonMesh!
So do you think it's possible to unplug the current duff cluster, and just plug in an entire 2nd hand instrument cluster? Or do you think the does the car need to be programmed to accept it? I expect if I ask my local Ford dealer they will just say that I need a new one at $1500 + fitting... |

Try Focus Hacks. They usually have good how-to's. Not sure of your model though? I think their hack is for pre '05. Have a gander anyway. Might give you a clue.
http://www.focushacks.com Its a good site that can answer many FAQ, or at least lead you to an answer! Also here is a PDF of a guage install. http://www.customgaugefaces.com/Inst...stallation.pdf

Late but worth it.
Cluster is part of the PATS. Key, ECU and cluster are all one unit. there might be a 'fix' for it by now. Dave d |
