Audio - 6x9's Help

Hi guys, I'm considering getting 6x9's for the rear parcel shelf, I have an AU S1 XR8.. are they to much effort to fit because the original size is for 5x7's?

How would you go about installing them, i was thinking maybe spacers but I don't know to much about this stuff!

Some help would be great, just don't wanna make a mistake by buying 6x9's.. and do they sound that much better than 5x7's? I just want some more bass without having to go for a sub setup!

are u running a sub and amp as well or just upgrading ur standard system?
u need to use a space to make the 6x9s fit u can make ur own out of MDF board or purchase one from autobarn or supercheap. using MDF how ever u can still keep the standard speaker covers to make it look legit, choice is urse

if running a sub 6" speakers are more then effective as the bass from the sub will be more then effeciant then the 6x9s

5x7s give out as much bass or just a little less then 5x7s but are hard to find and u pay more for or equal to the same price as 6x9's

Alpine makes 5x7s not sure prices or who else makes some there are a few audio companys that do,

also depends if u wanna run a system using all the same brand equipment or not such as all Alpine speakers or mix and match, are u after bass or just an upgrade

I am running Fusion 5×7" speakers all around and got them pretty cheaply... and they bolt straight in...

I got the same Fusions as well

Don't go the 6x9 - you will either need to cut into the chassis of the car to enlarge the holes to fit.....or you will need a spacer so the speakers will sit on top of the hole, and look ugly as hell....

IMHO, go the 5x7's - it's just less hassle!!

I've just got mine all put in a couple of weeks ago, and when you crank it up they sound really good - you wouldn't notice much difference.......I have an 8" sub in the parcel shelf as well so that covers me for any extra bass......

I've had 6x9's in my old ED, and while they were good as well, I reckon you'd need to be a massive audiophile to be able to detect much difference......

check out www.ryda.com.au - they have a large range of 5x7's available, and they are pretty reasonable price-wise as well!!

If you're running an amp and a decent headunit with these, they would allow for some flexibility, you can always set the bass a little higher on your H/U....when we were setting the gains on my stuff, we turned off the sub and the Fusion 5x7's put out bass quite nicely.....when they are combined with the bass it's enough for me!!

Unless you want to be heard (and felt) coming from 1km away.....

Hey if you want to run 6x9's just screw them in from underneath, i did cause they are cheaper than 5x7's and sound better.

I screwed my Pioneer 6x9s onto the underside of the parcel shelf and left the original grilles in place, look and sound fantastic. Don't cut the parcel shelf - it's illegal and takes out more strength from the shelf than you may realise....

let alone a lot of work cutting the actuall shelf not as easy as using scissors and just cutting

I should of mentioned that I have a pioneer H/U Click Here
Its not that fancy but it does the job.. what speakers will go well with this H/U?

I will never cut into the rear parcel shelf id either put the 6x9's in underneath or use a spacer!

If you bolt the 6x9's underneath does it block out some of the sound coming in? and if I use a spacer is it too much effort to keep the standard covers over them and how would you go about doing it?

you can ues a spacer but you wont be able to use the standard covers and it will leave a few little gabs
i reackon the best option is to mount them underneath keeping the factory covers it wont make any difference in the sound but will save u the hassel of trying to make them look right when you mount them above

Hey it will sound ok, pretty much every H/U is 50/52 x 4. To get better sound either hook up a sorta cheap amp 2x or 4x 50-100 watt R.M.S and it will sound heaps better.
