I had another issue with my car today,
when i started up there was this crazy loud constant whine from under the bonnet. wondering what it may have been, i gave the steering wheel a tug, and it got a lot louder. It also increased with rev's, which then told me it was something hanging off the motor. So putting 2 and 2 together, i knew it must be the powersteering pump. does this mean that its rooted? it is whining fairly loudly nearly every time i start the car. sometimes it goes away, other times it comes back or stays while im driving? are these cheap/easy to replace? or should i start saving? cheers.

check the fluid level first. low levels will produce noise. Then check for pump leaks, may be a hose.

a seal kit for the pump may be all thats required (if its leaking). A new pump can be had for 175-200. Reco rack will cost you around 250.

my pump had a kit put through it late last year, it was actually pretty quiet, but had a slight leak at the front seal, i have noticed lately its a little noisey specially when cold, rack was done approx year before, not a hundred percent sure why its become noisey, sometimes i wonder if its a restriction in the hydraulic circuit making the pump load up(work harder) one of my thoughts was the hydraulic hoses as they get older starting to perish a little and and as rubber swells it might cause a restriction, or debris in the system, i`m only guessing though, HLC to remove and refit is not too hard (although i`d rather be fishing),if you have a basic tool kit, i think at least one of the power steer hoses has an o ring that might need a replace, or on the back of the pump where the hose goes should you do the job, sorry its been a while(bloody alziemers).

im gonna check the oil tomorrow, didnt get a chance today. too busy driving my dads FG GT around to worry/care haha
but its seriously loud. sounds like i have a supercharger LOL but yeah if its anything like that, i might give it a go at refit etc. or just take it somewhere. really depends how i feel and how the bank balance looks.
