Count yourself lucky!
Could of had the potential to end up being a phone call from the police asking you to come see your burnt out EF.

Must be a common thing..My ef locks are busted on the drivers side door as if someone has tried to break in. Was already like that when I got it or at least I hope so

Very lucky indeed!

Might be a good time to replace your drivers side door handle with a passenger one for a cleaner look and of course better security. As long as you are prepared to rely on good old smartlock with it's constant mechanical whining.

the passenger side lock is the like the driver side now but that is a good idea but have to fix the lock from poping up enough to open the door even when locked with smart lock.

i do have a alarm that i might get installed

Oh yeah, the rear passenger doors are lock free aren't they? Get a couple of those for your front doors and you'll be much more secure.

lol... i have deleted the rear tailgate lock and put an EL f/p on the front passengers door but there is one flaw that i have found out and am changing soon

the tailgate garnish is only plastic.. under that, and you have the actuator that can be used to unlock/lock the car..

im doing mine up to E-series Sedan/AU Wagon+sedan style and making the boot button on the remote only open the boot, door button only work for the main 4 doors and the button on the dash work properly to control the boot..

It is very common for those little covers to fall off. But in this day and age, an alarm system isn't a bad idea just in case.

Can the EF/EL lock covers come out on their own? I had this happen to my EL a while ago and didn't think much of it.

I had an EF with two of those shield-less keyholes as well. Apparently those cars are immune to screwdriver forced entries.

They can just fall out. Once the cover came out when I pulled the key out.

What happends is the plastic that surrounds it goes brittle and it can break out.

mine just fell out aswell when i was looking at it.. no joke, was looking at it before polishing the car and it fell off.. and that was about 4 years ago.. the only sign of forced entry are multiple scratches on the passengers side front door, mirror, glass (a few small, but noticable chips) and they bent the door frame itself.. and dented the door.... that happened at teh RTA NSW Building in secure parking.... security guards caught the ********* just before they broke the window

Yeah, my EL had a missing cover on the driver's door as well. Seems pretty common as many of the EF/EL taxis had them missing as well.

Surely not all of those cars had been tampered with?

naa... like said above, the rubber (and using the key to lock the car when smartlock gives you the shits) around it will go after a while, wether it be from use, or just the heat

Just a thought, the EFs and ELs won't start without the interior light fuse in operation, correct? Wouldn't it be possible just to remove the fuse to act like a secondary immobiliser?

My EB's door locks were like that, and so is the one on my EL, neither of them have/went missing any time so they must be hard to get into short of a brick threw the window

They're disc-detainer locks, aren't they? I believe they're easier to pick with the proper tools, than the more common wafer locks.

But of course, most criminals just prefer brute force entry, rather than the finesse of picking.
