Default Worth Repairing?

How difficult is it to fix the damage as seen in pics above? The rear quarter looks a bit complex and the boot floor, how much would that cost to fix.

Anything can be fixed... depends how much money your willing to spend.

That looks like its definately a write off in the insurance eyes.

How much? How long is a piece of string?

The rear quarter is pushed down, so im guessing chassis is a bit bent without seeing pics from underneath. Im surprised the rear screen didnt break.

How on earth did the boot floor get so crumpled????

B-series do the same thing. You would think its to protect people in the back seats.

But that looks like a write-off.

$8000 is for a dodgey broadmeadows job using a stolen car for the rear cut and shut.

It's on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....tab%3DWatching

I reckon the quarters on these cars would be a little more complex than doing them on B series.

i think more questions need to be asked here... is this your car?, do you have any insurance, what happened to it, is the chassis bent. just a picture and a question doesnt really do it.

id take a stab at saying it was rear ended.. so get a new one from who ever rear ended you.

we did 18.5k damage to the old BF and it looked much worse then that.

We bought a BA MK11 ute from the auctions with what we thought would be an easy fix. Hmmmmm never again. Pick a number on what you think it will cost, then double it. All I can say is hindsight is a wonderfull thing...............

It cost $6k to repair my AU when I hit a roo. Not a single piece of steel was bent!

I would pick 15k, with a very patient beater. Most will over quote to miss the job. Although, it would be a good one for an apprentice to do, excellent training.

The thing with the FG though, there is no rear quarter panels, it has the one piece mould from the behind the front 1/4 to the rear, including the section above the doors on the roof.
Looking at how the rear section has bent down, Id say there is chassis damage as well. Id let it go.

It's a base model FG. It'll be worth $2 in a few years. I wouldn't even bother. If it were an FPV or an XR6T or 8, I think it would be worth it, but it's going to be worth less than what you pay for repairs in a few years. Plus, it will always be a repaired writeoff. So even if you try to sell it, people may be reluctant to purchase after they do the revs check and find out the status.

Yeah I think that is a way off...

I did $6500 worth of damage to the front of my BF and that was just a skippy encounter, same sort of story as MNM96..... this rear-ender looks x1000 times worse!

I would say write off... but also with the question of, why are you asking on here? Have you taken it to a panel shop/assessor?

We can see the cosmetic damage, but can only assume the structural damage

This is the description on ebay:

REAR END DAMAGED FORD FALCON FG XT, 6/2009 SEDAN WITH ONLY ON 18,903 KILOMETERS AND A POPULAR COLOR. VEHICLE IS LIKE NEW AND IN IMMACULATE CONDITION ALLROUND OTHER THEN THE MINOR DAMAGE TO THE REAR. STARTS AND DRIVES LIKE NEW. ALL INSPECTIONS ARE RECOMMENDED. ALL THE STANDARD FG XT OPTIONS. VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED FROM MANHEIM FOWLES IN VICTORIA. PLEASE NOTE THAT I'M ADVERTISING THIS CAR ON BEHALF OF MY FRIEND. CONTACT 0404 459 922 FOR ALL FURTHER QUIRIES

I look at this. It was purchased from Fowels. (this car is already been written off by an insurance company to be at Fowels in the first place). Old mate from ebay purchased it before realising the new laws in NSW now mean that car can not be reregistered as NSW write offs are now all Statutory write offs.
If you notice the seller is from NSW.

So even if it can be fixed, properly/ dodgily or not.....it can never be reregistered anywhere in Australia.

Very thorough analysis and excellent advice. Users should take note and I think anyone here considering buying it would be a fool after info from someone in the industry.

Just one point to add though; a couple of red flags are in the description however. Firstly the "I'm selling it for my friend", and the fact that they can't spell "queries" or "enquiries" correctly. I don't expect a Rhodes Scholar, but these two significant issues do add weight to Yaw's theory on how someone can be so dumb as to buy a write off without investigating whether or not it can be re-registered.

What about the fact he calls it minor damage and says it drives like new? That is enough to set off my dodgy meter as there is no way a car with major structural damage like that is considered minor or would drive like new.

I just went through his feedback it looks like he sells damaged cars for a living on ebay so he would know that it is a writoff and can't be registered.

The seller obviously knowns what he is doin
The old "selling for a mate"is basically the "dumb card"

If its a write of the numbers should be on the write of register
Though there are some cars with similar damage that are NOT on the register,
due to no insurance, and the sellers have to sell privately
Yes surprise surprise not everybody has insurance

Highly doubting it can't be registered anywhere in Australia. Pretty sure it can be returned to Victoria, repaired, passed through a VIV inspection and then re-registered - if you have the time, knowledge and funds.

I reckon it will probably be bought by someone in the Northern Sub's of Melbourne and used for the purposes of doing something dodgy, or put on the road by cutting all sorts of corners and using connections in the industry to have it passed through VIV, RWC and registration.

It certainly can not be registered in Western Australia.
Repairable write-off became a statutory write off several years ago when the laws were altered. You can repair anything if you want but you will never get it registered in WA at least

regardless of wether it can be repaired, after seeing some of the structural damage done to this vehicle(and i`m betting there`s more hidden damage), a better question is would you want to own it if it was repaired?? not this little black duck.
