Default Another Dead AU

Apparently taken today at Eight Mile Plains in Brisbane

Leads me to ask: I wonder how many AU's are left? I've personally known of three AUs that have been written off or dismantled, and there's about 6 at my wreckers. Out of the 240,000-odd AU's made, how many do you think are left?

Wonder what started that, being in the middle of the road you wouldnt think it would have been deliberate.

How many AU's around? T series guys probably think to many..hehe..by now you might be able to say one third lost?

I doubt it was LPG blueoval. The 'pools' of fire on the road seem to suggest to me that it was likely a petrol fire.

I've always been kind of surprised about how few cars do catch on fire - all you need is a not-fully-sealed ignition system and a split in a fuel hose....

Funny you should post this, I saw a 90-ish Camry catch fire on the highway on the weekend! It was an engine bay fire, not sure what started it...

That would have to be the first AU ive seen on fire from what appears to be accidental.

I too recently encountered a car with an engine bay fire. It was a VR commodore so nothing unusual.

If memeroy serves me, the VR/VS Commodores had issues with the tranmission dipstick, if not locked down properly presure would make them pop up and subsiquently spray the engine bay with hot oil, which caused fire issues.

I just sold mine...it was almost dead (dodgy brakes, exhaust/fuel smell in cabin, a/c worked part time, waterfall in boot when it rained...from new, etc. etc.)

No, he's right.

Our Barge only has 180,000kms on it and it's already needed a new Battery, an Alternator, 2 sets of spark plugs AND 3 brake light globes!!

(Oh and an LPG switch, but that was an IMPCO problem.)

My guess is a fuel connection or hose leaking petrol onto a hot exhaust near the back. Doesn't look like an engine bay fire at all.
