For those of us who love plasma TV's, the final shipment of Panasonic plasma TV's has landed in Australia and they're selling fast, I bought a top of the range 65" VT series today - very good prices.

LCD, another marketing triumph of style over substance. This is sad news to any serious home cinema fan, those who appreciate accurate picture reproduction of their favourite movies. Nothing does that like a highend plasma, still the reference TVs of industry reviewers worldwide.
I knew it was coming, just not quite this soon. Might have to consider getting a new one! Mike

this is an argument that goes back and forward - it's all down to what you personally prefer..
i've had a plasma as well as several backlit LCDs and three edgelit LEDs (samsungs) and IMO the best picture was from the backlit LCD's. Now the standard is edgelit LED and while not as good they're still great for what they cost. why don't you try a good quality projector when plasmas have gone

I don't think I've ever seen the argument go back and forth.
First the best was the Pioneer Kuro, now it's the Panasonic NeoPlasma.. end argument... no back and forth there. |

The highend Panasonic plasmas get 10/10 scoring from the 'experts'.
We have an 6 year old 50" Panasonic plasma which has been faultless and IMO has a better/more natural picture than the current newer LED/LCD technology. Whilst Panasonic make LED/LCD too, they recognise several suboptimal features hence Pansonic is investing on OLED to surpase the image quality of plasma. Expect these sometime in 2015. Picking up the new TV today can't wait. |

Agreed, our 50 inch Viera has been bulletproof for 6 years also. Still kills my friend's latest Samsung LCD for colour accuracy and over-processing of the image. I like movies to look like film, not shot on video if you know what I mean.
I'm in the planning stages for a home theatre extension to the house and a projector is definitely the go. But I'll wait for OLED for my next TV assuming the plasma holds out. Mike Mike

The only thing that worries me with Plasma is burn-in from video games, we burnt in an image on a mates plasma TV after a long gaming session, you could still see the HUD of the game while watching the footy. |

Our current plasma has been punished on games for hours and hours on end, and been paused for many hours also.
It's got some feature that shifts the image slightly to avoid it and I have to say it has worked perfectly. I've never once noticed any screen burn. |

We just upgrade from a Panasonic 50" Plasma to a Samsung 60" LCD
Samsung is certainly sharper and overall better image quality but the blacks of the plasma were superior. Main killer of plasmas is the heat and power inefficiency compared with LCD.

I prefer my Plasma's.
We install a heap of the Samsung / LG / Sony LED's when doing automated housing. I have a stock pile of Pioneer Plasmas at home, you never know when you need one lol...

I got one last month when I heard the news, nothing wrong with my old Panny either but the new one is better, and 3D as well.
A lot depends on your room and colour tastes. |

The reality is the best of each are damn close. I use LCD throughout my home, but in my theatre I have a projector and 120" screen. No panel display comes even close...

Yes, I've bumped into Joe more than a few times, though he still probably doesn't know who I am. Were you there when Chris Strom worked for Joe?

It is acknowledged that there are different strengths between them, but when it comes down to out and out "best picture" plasma wins over LCD.
No caveats on being in a brightly lit room, outdoors, or with reflections, etc... Just best picture reproduction. Of course if you don't have them next to each other you will never know anyway. |

I've got a 65" ST60 Pana plasma and it's fantastic. For my viewing habits plasma blows LCD/LED away.

I still deal with Synergy, but not so much these days. Campsie, that's going back a bit, I wandered in there a few times. The dealers are dropping like flies though. It's sad... Who do you do installs for now?
