Default Fords just aren't looking mean enough nowadays

Years ago when i was a wee lad, i remember reading a letter a reader had sent into Wheels Magazine saying how "Holdens dont look mean enough, im a Holden man till i die but the new Fords just look ready to rip up the road, but the Holdens look, well, subtle"

I had to agree with it even being Ford Biased i did feel sorry for Holden fans for not having something like the F6 Typhoon or something as mean and deadly looking. But over the past few years, Holden is really kicking *** in the Mean Looks Department!!
For example
2004 FPV and HSV

The HSV looks pretty tamed and smooth while the FPV's flat front gives it a grunty, beastly look.
Then Holden started getting a lot different.

Compared to

While ford have pretty much kept the exact same look for the past few years Holden have just gotten cooler and cooler
Im not comparing each car to its exact opposite but you get what i mean.

Just little things like with the Maloo's tail lights extending onto the tail gate make the car look so so very different, as well as the completely different body work, and how the club sport has the narrow rectangular tail lights with the LED's.
Where as ford keeps the same look throughout the range, only putting a bit of grey paint under the headlights (dont get me wrong i love the racoon look) and maybe a bit of a Bonnet Bulge. They really cant looks as mean as the Holdens are and it sucks for me when i have to defend ford to my mates!

As a Holden fan I actually disagree. The new HSVs are far too "ricey" for my liking. I like FPV's more subtle, cleaner approach.

I really love Y/Z series HSVs, and the E1s compared to FPVs at that time, but the latest crop of FPVs have won me over big time.

Personally I think th FGs have a real presence on th road. But then I like the sleek understated muscular look over the "look at me" boy racer look.

I do think HSV did a good job with the tail lights on the VE. I've never been a fan of the flared nostrils and the current body kits look a little too busy for me though.

different strokes for different blokes really.

I personaly think VZ is better looking than VE and most defentaly is a better package.

FG F6 or F6E with a set of coilovers is all that is needed to transform the image that is hurt by still having them with too much tyre to guard clearance, hence not the menaceing looks.

ill point out you compare a GT to a clubsport but then a F6 with a GTS?.

Mate if you think the HSV's look "good" then I suggest selling the XC and buying a VN.

The Fords certainly are less try hard, I mean look at the current HSV its a mess. But in their defense the hords still buy them and atleast you can tell when a hsv is coming.

That BA GT looks tough as nails there though.

Those Maloo's are terrible The SS Utes look a lot better in my opinion.

FG FPV's are designed well. But they do lack a couple of things that would make them just that little better, i.e LED tail lights and Xenon front lights (or at least something a little more modern in that department)

I'd have to disagree completely with the VE vs FG example...

The VE is not tough looking from the front, sides, or rear... IMHO...
Two sets of nostrils... (bonnet and grill)... LED front lights... Yuk... and the rim choices between the whole range (except senator - which I do like) are complete rubbish and look like some of my kids lego toys...

The FG 'racoon' is a more subtle look... and I am not a fan of the Racoon eyes... but look at the F6... the front end says "No bulge here buddy... but check out my intercooler!!!"

And as for the utes... clearly someone who liked the flinstones designed the Maloo... It would look more suited to a neanderthal pedalling his feet thru the floor...

The only point I will agree on is that the utes from the end of the doors to the rear, are basically the same as an xr8 ute... so they could have done a little more than some stickers and badges in that area... but hey - its a ute... you want whistles and bells... and a nice famous badge (ie: GT) then buy the 4 door..

And for the record... the F6 doesn't need to look that flash from the front anyways... HSV owners will generally only see the rear anyways... wondering why they spent so much money on a 6ltr fuel guzzler, when they could have had an F6 with economy like a normal car (not a performance car)...

Thats my 2 cents... for what its worth...

Props to HSV for making it their own product, in their special way.

I'd take the FG or that E2 POS. The B-series looked much better then the VZ HSV's easily. But thats my opinion.

For me a stock holden looks more aggresive then a ford. comparing utes: I reckon the stock Maloo looks like a triangle, the tray is just way too high. but it does look fairly good compared to a stock falcon. but if u want to modify the maloo, what options are there? with the falcon u would be able to customise it more i reckon because it isn't all massive body kit. A roll bar(sports bar) for example would easy to put on falcon compared to the maloo

i thought that was the target market!

actually i agree with one point of the OP, the new holdens do look good. But the falcons are good too. i think the FG is right up there with the XY.

Im not comparing them in terms of performance, i was just using a base sample of how the new designs look.

I guess the main point im trying to say is that you can really tell the difference between a normal holden and a performance holden, between a runaround city car and a purpose built mean machine. I love the new fords and some of them can be made to look freekin sweet tho!

The Maloo looks like a chunky kids toy... the only style it has is "ugly".

The E2 HSV range looks too busy. Like overly accessorised.

The FG FPV looks like a boxer ready to go round for round with anything. Though some bigger wheels would set them off a little better in looks. But IMO still not as menacing as the BA/BF FPVs.

Thats my opinion anyhow.

The FG looks way tougher, the E2 and the E3s look far to messy and riced up, they look like they are made by Matel almost!

i think that the toughest looking fg's are the xr8's and they look better than the hsv's and fpv's

I also disagree. I love the way Falcons are going compared with HSV. The Holdens have way too much going on with the front end. Too much cr@p hanging off everywhere. The Fords are nice and smooth and i think that is a good way to go. Better to head towards Euro looking then US look i think.

Sorry XCwillo but i think you need to get off the crack mate

I just fed me dog her breakfast and i could have swore i saw a ve hsv in the bowl, truly mate all the hsvs are as ugly as a bashed crab since the e3 models have been released.

While i agree the BA/BFs look menacing, thats why i got the BF, i think the hipo FGs are sex on wheels and when the bank says i can have one i just want one(5.0L XR8 thanks)

By the way most of my poor red eyed mates dont even try to argue for the e3 hsvs anymore cause even they know there fricken fugly

But anyway each to their own i guess

IMO the FG has a much more refined stance than the HSV product.

If I wanted to go to the toy box, pull apart a few star wars toys, mix together with Lego blocks and then put a dalek's helmet with post box holes on the front, then I would have the latest HSV product.

It may go like stink - but the beast sure as hell is ugly.

The FG on the other hand has progressed to a more subtle but menacing stance in the looks department that I'm sure FPV have cottoned on to, and will further progress.

I think someone is getting "Looking Tough" confused with "Looking Butt Ugly"

You can add your E2 and E3's to this wonderful device I have in the kitchen, its called a rice cooker.

Did you have to stain my eyes with that picture, that isnt even tough/ mean looking in anyway shape or form.

The B Series FPV (BA) in particular is probably one of the toughest looking late model cars around.

That said you cant please everyone

The FGs look tuff. I was at a servo inside waiting to pay looking out the window as a VE SS pulled up next to my ute, side by side front on the Ford looked way tougher.

I do agree with you in some ways. HSV are way over the top though...But the FG FPV's all look the same to me, especially from a bit of a distance. Stickers and badges are all that differentiate them IMO. On the other side of the coin, I PERSONALLY prefer understated muscle, absolutely love the BA Force 6 and 8

neither was I.

you put up an F6 *6cyl has no bonnet bulge* then go on to say they should have a bulge etc to set them apart, but if you had of compared a GT again with the GTS it would have that exact requirement you were suggesting they use.

all I'm saying is compare apples with apples. *PICTURES WISE*
