iPod Connection Problems

Just on to find out if anyone has had any troubles with their iPod connection. The iPod connects and play fine, all 3 of them, for maybe an hour or 2 and then it just stops and comes up with, "Read Error". We can get this to clear by unplugging the iPod for a good few hours then plugging it back in again. I have done this with a couple of iPod leads and the same thing happens again.

Not sure what the problem could be or even how the garage could fix such a problem.

Let us know if you have had similar and had a fix to sort this out.

Hello - I have read about this somewhere else too . . . apparently it comes down to two possible causes:

1. The Sony entertainment unit only supports sequential playing or shuffle playing of 200 songs if you are connected by USB cable only (using the Ford 'Y-connector' solves this). You can aslo break down songs into smaller playlists to avoid the 200 song limit.

2. Your mp3 player is not supported by the Ford USB interface. Check here;

Just a note here: When you use any 'Y-Cable' the audio you get comes from the headphone jack on the mp3 player and it is inferior to the audio output you get when only using the USB cable. Some will notice this others won't care but if you have an ear for it . . . it's a disappointing trade-off.

1) My wife only has small playlists on her iPod and it does the same thing even if just sequentially playing albums. Does the same thing with both my kids iPod's.

2) It's an iPod and the unit was set up to specifically play these machines.

All the iPods are connected using a OEM iPod lead and headphone jack to the auxy port, does the same job as the Ford Y-connector(2 leads in one)

Have you tried the y-lead or just assuming it would be the same, I assume you are using two separate leads at the moment, i-pod to usb socket, and 3.5mm to 3.5mm to aux from i-pod headphone socket

I have one playlist of over 350 songs and recently got to track 136 in one continuous session, including jumping tracks via the steering wheel controls.

Cant say that I notice a reduction in audio quality using the y lead.

I had issues using my iPod with my mb mondeo using separate cables. I had to unplug and reconnect each time I started the car.

Got a cheap Y cable off eBay and everything works perfect now. Somehow there is a difference using the single cable.
