Being the crane operator up there would be a walk in the park compared to being a rigger up there

Dubai is a city in the United Arab Emirates. Its basically a really rich country where people have more dollars than they know what to do with it. They know that crude oil is going to run out one day (which is how they became rich) so they are changing their economy to cater for tourism so they can have income when the oil runs out.

Umm actually no, This is a roof section that was being hoisted into position at a new baseball park in Milwaukee, USA. Roof was around 400 tons when the wind impacted on the load and the crane was blown over. Transom maxi lift crane capable of lifting up to 1500 tons depending on it's configuration. Unfortunately 3 guys died up in the basket of another crane guiding it into position. That's not to say that cranes don't fall over in Dubai. Cheers M |

there are pics floating around that have been taken from the top of this building.
It is so high that you can actually see the curvature of the earth from the top. The don't do things by halves over there. |

Dubai is a great place to visit. Any time you have a stop over there be sure to stay a week.
Yes... the money that is flowing through the place is AMAZING. The city skyline is littered with sky rises in various states of completion. The Burj El Arab (Sail looking hotel) is truly a sight to behold. You can't even set foot in the carpark without booking beforehand and dressssing correctly... Stuff is dirt cheap, the public busses are efficient (and segregated - Male / Female seating!!), and the YHA has a marble foyer and a manicured garden and pool that will put a 4 star hotel to shame. And Tax free income : You don't know hot till you go Dubai in the middle of Summer... I would walk and leave a droplet trail from the sweat running down to my finger tips... I think the average while I was there was 42deg. Some of the big builders there are putting up whole cities of 30 and 40 sky rises in 1 hit. The $25 a night hostel pool.... |

I read somewhere that 25% of the worlds cranes are in Dubai. So I'm not suprised that there's cranes from everywhere.

The people were rude to her, and public transport was almost non-existant. What few cabs there were had to be fought for against the locals, and when they did manage to get a cab to get back to their hotel, he decided half way there he didn't want to drive them any further and kicked them out after demanding they pay the full fare. She also said the city was dirty.

Take into account that all your hard earned money that is spent on fuel is building all of that.
