Radar detectors are illegal to use? Am I correct?
If so, this thread won't last long I reckon.

As I understand, most units nowadays are not radar detectors as such. But utilise the GPS system to locate camera and radar setups. As these use the technology also.

Just read the fines on these ... pretty hefty indeed.
I think WA was allowed them ... but that might have changed though.
If Police suspect you have one ... they are allowed to search the car in the spot for it too .. well that's in NSW anyway.

You get found with one ... well ... don't wanna know about that. I think the cops will give you a right rogering.

There's no where to hide it, they have radar detector detectors, you get a choice hand it over or we rip your car apart and find it ourselves.

It's amazing how touchy they get if they think you are using something that might eat into their revenue.....

A few years back one of my mates(who happens to be an electronics whiz)
built this radar detector that worked a treat.
He scaled it down and disguised it as a packet of cigarettes, it just sat on the dash. Inevitably he gets pulled over and accused of having a radar detector fitted to his car, puts his smokes in his pocket, pops the bonnet, gets out, offers the keys to policeman and says "knock yourselves out".
We stood there for 20mins while cops crawled all over the car and found zip.
They even parked thier car in front of ours and tried the radar detector..'detector' again, with naturally no response :
In the end they gave up and told us it must have been a false reading. :nutsycuck

Last time I checked, which was a while ago, they were still legal in WA and WA only. In Vic as far as i know it is a $1034 fine, and they confiscate your $800 or however expensive detector. Stalcar (sp?) R.D.D's (radar detector-detector) have been proven to be the be-all and end-all of finding your radar detector(s)... I havent looked into it for a while, but there were 2 detectors that were actually "invisible" to it (not just claiming to be), but they werent available in Australia.
