Hi, I have just bought a 2000 KN Laser for my daughter only to find out that with 211000Km on the clock it has never ever had a timing belt change.
I am trying to find a manual or technical paper which gives instructions on the procedure to follow when replacing the timing belt. As far as I can see there are no manuals, although there is a manual for a 2000 Mazda 323. Does that have the same engine? Does anyone know how to change the timing belt and would be prepared to tell me the process please? The Ford Dealer wants $1,200 to do it and I just can't afford that right now. If anyone knows of a manual to cover this please let me know. Thanks. |

$1200 is very expensive. As it's got over 200,000kms on it, it will probably need seals & tensioner as well as the t/belt. Your local mechanic should be able to do it for around $600.

The 1.6/1.8 Ltr motor's are the same in Mazda/Ford, so even though the book is for a Mazda, to change the timming belt, it would be the same.
