http://media.ford.com/newsroom/relea...?release=28093

Above is the official media release issued by Ford Motor Company in the USA confirming the tragic truth.

Some of you may have read the article in wheels recently describing his battle with cancer. Very sad news to read indeed. A very sad day for Ford and for Australia, not to mention his family. My heart goes out to his whole family.

Sad news, did a top job and was a top bloke too. Very well respected in the industry, even by the opposition.

A lot of employees at Ford HG in Broady will be saddened also working under him while he was president and doing great things with Ford....the BA and the Territory

Tha fact that he bothered to post here and on LS1 said it all....brought confidence and pride back to Ford Oz .... and it might be urban myth however I believe while having a meeting (when he sat on the car industry body) with the former Holden MD at the Fishermans Bend HQ, GP took a prototype XR6T and layed some black rubber when leaving as the Holden engineers watched....

Wow. I'm almost beyond words. This is a big shock. While I never met him personally, Geoff Polites certainly seemed like a great man who managed to take Ford Australia back into the fight. He will be greatly missed. Condolences to his family and friends.

This is a sad day.

Geoff was a good friend to this forum as well as a great leader for Ford Australia during his time here but he should be remembered more for simply being the gentleman that he was.

That he always managed to remain positive in the face of adversity is perhaps the most lasting memory I will have of him - I spoke to him only five weeks ago and despite being busy with the sale of Jaguar, the myriad other things that his role encompassed and battling his illness he still had that positive outlook that I am sure he carried through to the end.

His departure from Australia left a void in the Ford world here but his passing will leave a much bigger one on his family and our sympathies are with them at this time.

Russ
