Speed sign placements

Just wondering if there is a recognised Australian standard for the placement of speed signs on roads where there are varying speeds.i.e how far apart should the signs be placed ?
Steve Irwin Way up our neck of the woods varies from 100 to 80 to 100 to 80 etc etc, with some of those zones having been changed in the last 9 months or so.
Guess who's having a field day nailing the speedsters in the new zones.

For the occasional weekend traveller out of Brisbane, who has been used to 100 clicks on this road for decades, it is a real trap.

I'd like to see a new BIG advisory sign stating that limits have been changed, ( similar to those signs that govs manage to erect every time they fix a pot hole ) and also more speed advisory signs placed at an appropriate separation along said stretches.

AS1742.4 of 1999. This in your neck of the woods, QLD, is adopted into its MUTCD - Manual of Traffic Control Devices.

But, what happens then is Councils, and the State Authority 'speed managers' go about setting 'speed management', the result is the usual mish mash of signs you see. The national standard above, is not to blame.

Much of the road signage is International is design and application.

What is needed is a review having regard the removal of certain speed zone categories.

Got to love Glasshouse Mountains road, they change the name and then think its an excuse to play with speed limits.

Also live there myself and its even confusing for me! though i dont go past mooloolah all that often! but it is indeed a nightmare, and they are killing the road with traffic lights at the caloudndra end of the road :(

But i agree, the road is a nightmare even for myself to travel, spend more time looking at the speeedo and the side of the road for signs then i do actually driving.

and the fact that EVERYONE doesnt do the speed limit till after landsborough, so its a 80 in a hundred zone all the way to the BP, really irks me when i just wanna get home.

compared to what i`ve seen in NSW ,the QLD road signage is pretty crappy as a whole.

its not uncommon for speed signs to be half hidden or in spots that are easily missed. also we only get one smallish sign on the LHS of the road .in NSW they mostly have larger signs and on both sides of the road , and also warning signs that you are approching a reduced speed limit (ie ; 80kmh ahead )

i have been caught out twice by not seeing the speed sign and fined for doing 18kmh over when i thought i was doing the right thing. :
