Default 95 WB Festiva - cam belt or timing chain / how to tell if a 1.3 or 1.5....

Hello everyone

I have bought a Festiva as my take to train station car.

No paperwork or badging. Has ircon, power steer and is a manual.

How can i tell what size engine?

... plus do they have timing chain or rubber belt to be mndful off?

Cheers

Matt

Bugger... my log book is long gone, there were engine bay pictures to show differences.

Timing belt, not chain. Needs to be done every 100,000km with the water pump.

Re 1.3-1.5... ummm I could 'feel' the difference between the 2. The 1.5 went pretty well... I was buying one after I crashed mine and the guy advertised it as a 1.5 and withing 10 seconds told him it was a 1.3.. and I was right.

Is it registered? Won't the engine capacity be on the rego papers?

It should be under the capacity section on your rego certificate, it'll show a number such as 1299 (1.2) or 1495 (1.5) like mls to litres. Otherwise it should be on a badge in the engine bay.

1299= 1.3L ;)

Yeah, check the compliance plate, it's pretty easy to find on the firewall as well

They're Mazda B3 and B5 engines also, so its bullet proof, not much goes wrong with them, even when they've been neglected.

We've got a 99' WF Festiva 1.5L here and its been treated like crap all its life, still goes though.

B5 engine = 1.5
B3 engine = 1.3
Engine number should start with one of the above prefixes.
The other easy way to check is look under the distributor. If the starter motor is mounted directly below the distributor it is a 1.3 motor.
