Which Nulon diesel oil?

Thought I'd do the annual oil change during lockdown, but not sure whether I can buy Fuchs oil at the moment. If not, I might try Nulon.

They make two 5W-30 C3 oils - Full Synthetic European and Long Life Diesel. The first is a PAO oil, but the diesel oil is cheaper per litre in the 10 l size.

I think Fuchs now owns/ partially owns Nulon now.
I'm not sure what changes, if any, they have implemented.

Many use Nulon and are quite happy with the quality and price.

You can use any of their Diesel Oils that fit the DPF spec and grade. As someone that has solely used Nulon 5W30 LL (yellow 30) on my MB from 120K to 270K, I can say it has serviced me well.

As someone that has opened the intake and cleaned it, seen the cam and associated gear; has dropped the sump and seen the internals, I can say it has delivered as promised on the drum. The Yellow 30 LL oil originally had C3-12 spec but that has changed over the years as have the labels and oils specifications. I never saw the need for ultra low saps (C1-C4). I've had to trust Nulon knows their stuff and changes with the times, and by all accounts it's turned out great.

I initially thought all these label changes were **** covering, in that they've got a spec wrong but time has shown that not to be the case. At least Nulon didn't change as often as Penrite had, that was one reason I didn't use Penrite, that and the little extra cost for their oil.

either will do you fine:

Nulon 5W30 Long Life (yellow 30 on the bottle) ACEA C3, mid saps
Nulon 5W30 Low Emissions (orange 30 on the bottle) ACEA C1, low saps

As you've noticed Nulon is cheaper in the 10L drums, better when on sale too.

I had a look at the Nulon website after my post. They do make quite a few 5W-30 oils, not as many as Penrite but it is a little confusing.

The "European" oils with the green label have a PAO base oil and meet ACEA C3. They are low SAPS, about 0.5% sulphated ash, and have a lowish TBN of 5.4.

The yellow label, long life diesel oil is higher SAPS and TBN, which are similar to the Fuchs Flex 23 oil I have been using.

That is impressively clean for any engine, let alone a diesel. How often do you change the oil?

Yeah, I was happy to see it, I've seen inside plenty of diesel engines on mining equipment, so it is nice to see mine that clean too.

Every 15K without fail, I never went by time, I'd do more than 15K kms in 12mths. I didn't get fancy, I stayed to the Manufacturer's recommended schedule although twice I changed it early due to maintenance I were doing, like the early timing belt, or if I were going the Trans fluid and fuel filter before a long holiday drive but nearer the 15K mark. Nulon 10L drums were typically $75 on sale, over the 7yrs ownership I've had my fill of drums. Also, nice to have it so cheap.

It was also nice to have used all my filters (oil/fuel) from all those years back when ordering from overseas to pad the order.

Repco has 10 l of the Nulon long life diesel oil for $94, which looks like a good deal.

The next problem is what filter to get. Repco want $39 for the Ryco! I normally buy a Hengst, but I think the place where I get them is only supplying the trade during lockdown.

I can order a K&N for about $20, but unsure of the quality.

AFL98 Motorcraft from ford was okay for me.

Ryco was okay

Valeo oil filters looked average after 15K, like the material swollen and you could see fibres. But their Fuel filters were great. Wiper beams were cheap, sometimes I didn't use the beam, I pulled the blade to fit in Bosch Aerotwin beams, did well in AU

Mahle was great for me, I once ordered 5 from the UK to pad an order. 3 pounds,

I missed the bus on MAN filters, didn't get to buy and try.

The Hengst filters appear to be very good quality, similar to Mann, and their pricing is good here. The o-ring in the box fits perfectly, unlike some other brands!

I've just put in 2009 Mondeo TDCi. Westfil and Mann filters there.

I've been grabbing all my service gear through here. Also i've found, Supercheap will match the prices.

Those are good prices. The Mann oil filter looks very similar to the Hengst - made in the same factory?

Hey All.
Just wanted to share that Burson are clearing their stocks of the 5L Fuchs Titan Sypersyn F Eco-FE SAE 0W-30. Part number is 4760.005. Reason being... Fuchs are moving to a 7L bottle, which makes more sense for Mondeo's and others that require 6L or more.
I just got 3 x 5L for $114. Bargain !

Nulon has just released their APEX range.

Is this just a sticker pack or are their products better again now with Fuchs additives etc?

All i know is the price is certainly higher!!

That's a Fuchs thing. You have to request their technical info.

Only the old Nulon oil on sale in NZ.

I expect they are use Fuchs additives, but not their base oils. It would be interesting to compare specs across the respective product ranges, although Fuchs don't make that easy.

I use the Fuchs Titan C2/3 oil in the MB, very happy with it apart from the cost! The equivalent Apex+ oil on special might be a good alternative.

Always good to see another Fuchs supporter.
I believe their 0-30 Titan Sypersyn F Eco-FE I use has an incremental impact on the ongoing 5.4L/100 I am getting with the MD. And it supports Ford's 950-A spec.
