I'm having a really patriotic day after going to the dawn service this morning. Anyone who reads this thread, download "Redgum - I Was Only 19" and read this poem...
Spirit of Oz You hurt us bombing bali, but we can take the pain But if you think you'll beat us you can think a-bloody-again We battled at Gallipoli and we fought the bloody hun of all the arseholes we've had to face, your just another one You wont get your hands dirty, you wont fire a gun You brainwahs innocent children to do your evil deeds Careful not to let them know just where it really leads You get them to believe all your biggotry and lying Until they cannot see that there's no glory in their dying Now we'd like to pose a question, answer if you can Where does your holy book tell you to kill your fellow man? Now listen hard and listen well, were giving you the word Your never gonna beat us you spineless bloody turd You'd never face us personally you havent got the guts You know that if u ever did, we'd have your bloody nuts We sure as hell arent scared of you and your gutless crowd So get your act together----you'll never win because What your really up against is the spirit that is OZ.... I went to the morning service in town here, just seeing all the diggers marching proudly put a tear in my eye and a shiver down my spine. One onlooker said to me "What will happen when they are all gone?".
Lest we forget.

That will be the saddest ANZAC march when 'all' are gone.. but their families will still march with such pride, and we all must remember them.. Lest We Forget

At Sydney's March there were the banners of Regiments, Divsions ect but no one marching. Just a couple of Scouts marching the banner. It brought a tear to my eye.
I was in the march for my late Grand Father. That brought me to tears and made me feel not worthy standing alongside these great men. Never had to go through what these people did. They took it on the chin and did it for their mates and country. Lest We Forget.

Just reading this above proves that we have more national pride now than in the last 20 or so years, and the memory of those who gave the ultimate for us won't be forgotten. |

indeed norm, lest we forget..you should stand proud in your fathers place. This country owes men like him a debt we could not possibly repay.

Hopefully our new Veterans affairs Minister will start to do something about the National disgrace, going on for 20 years where our Governments hire the best lawers purely to fight against injuries our soldiers have recieved in the last 40 years while in active service.such as the HMAS Melbourne disaster and several others both on land and at sea,and in the air.My hair stands on end everytime i see our soldiers marching past,we all feel a great sence of National Pride (or should do)and its great to see our schools are again teaching the children about our history,as they dropped off for around 15 years not completely but noticeably , its just a pity we have John Howard and others standing there crying about what heroes they were yet in the back ground fighting tooth and nail to stop any payouts to our diggers past and present.

The main dawn service in adelaide was probably twice the size it was last year and it was great to see so many young people attending (i mean young as in teenagers, attending out of their own free will). Its important to keep the tradition going and keep it going strong. Im confident that, as a nation, we will never forget.

I finally got to do ANZAC day back home in Gippsland last year after 6 years service. Nothing will beat the Perth march for me but I tell you for a small town they put on an awesome day, and seeing everyone lined up watching, young and old was fantastic.
Also the AFL paid tribute to the men who served on HMAS Perth before a Fremantle v Richmond game a few years ago, that would have to be the most moved i've been, to hear what they had to endure and how many of them just didn't make it home bought a tear to my eye. We have a proud tradition and I'm glad to see it seems to be getting stronger and hasn't been commercialised.
