G'day all, as we are all aware, clear rear indicators are mostly stock on EF/EL, do-able on EB, and unavailable on EA. Well I've come into contact with someone on the MazdaWorld.org forums in the US who is able to do custom jobs. Basically the tails would look the same except the lower indicator/reverse light bit would be clear and smoked, to match the lower black portion of the Ghia garnish and eliminate all amber.
I was going to do this myself as a surprise but a) they wouldn't actually be installed on mine for some time, b) the price gets cheaper the more that are ordered and c) there are only a handful of EAs in the Club anyway. I'm waiting on a price but I thought I'd ask in case there was any interest from anyone else. Here is the guy's web site for further reading: http://klearz.com/ Cheers! |

Noice one Jack They should look good with that subtle smokey effect. It wouldn't hurt to see if you could get ones for the EB/ED made up, as it'd be a lot easier than smashing several lenses to get the desired effect!
Was there any approximation on price? Oh oh! I just had a thought : What about getting the side indicators for the EB/ED done in a crystal clear effect? The AUIII ones are nice, but I think they stick out way too much compared to the factory EB/ED ones.

Cheers guys, I'll mention to Klearz that there is some interest. The prices are very reasonable but a complete tail-light lense is a fairly complex piece of work.
Regarding the crystal effect, that may or may not be unrelated to the lense, so your best bet may be full clear lense and doing some mods to the inside of the lights. I'll keep everyone posted. In fact, I'll show this thread to Klearz so he can answer more questions directly. Cheers! |

Speaking of LED stop lights, I have a few ones left over which some E series members expressed an interest in on my other thread in the Pub. Cost is $10.50 each plus $4.15 for national postage of up to 4.
On topic, I've alerted Klearz to this thread so other questions can be answered soon. I suspect clear EB tails will be cheaper than EA ones as they are a simpler design. One thing is that we will have to send the L/R hand lenses to the US without the rest of the light, and seperating them could be a challenge. If anyone has any spare EA etc tails without damage that would be a good starting point. |

Well, i'd be VERY interested in this, as i've currently tined my indicators to match the garnish. So it'd be nice to have a LEGAL setup again lol
If Mick (InitialD) EVER gives me those tail-lights he has for me, then there's probably some in there that could be hacked up ;) |

Well I figure that since we are not talking about rare/expensive parts, even if we had to completely destroy the housing to get the lense off (and destroy our old lenses to install the new ones) it wouldn't be the end of the world.

Why don't you try talking to plastics shops locally, eg there are places that do custom light diffusers for lights on buildings, I'm sure they would have a look at car lights as well.

I'm thinking it will be pretty expensive.
Time will tell. May be scrapped like the clusters from the cluster fook thread on FF.

OK some background info for Klearz, the EA and EB are late '80s/early '90s Falcon models and the tail lights are one piece and interchangable. The main difference is that the EB reversing lights are not part of the tail light assembly as seen on this pic:
And this is a pic of my EA; the tails are less bulbous but share the same dimensions overall: The goal is reproducing the tail light lenses in both styles but without the amber. Let us know how much you think we'd be looking at. Getting numbers won't be a problem, that's for sure. Cheers! Last edited by ilsautomotive; 04-03-2005 at 08:40 PM. |

Hi there,
Those tailights are pretty big. My suggestion is that if they are interchangable would be to use the ones without the reverse light for all models. The reason being is that the end result will be much cleaner, as it will one smooth surface on bottom. Also having a 2 color lens is alot more work then all clear. So if we can get a group of 5 to give us a small down payment we could get you guys a group discount. for a set of all clear it would be 150$ for half red half clear it would be 225$ in either case you can add smoke for an additional 10$ we recommend for ppl who cant spend the 225, to buy a set of clear and simply paint the top part with red transluside paint. i would need someone to send me a set of their lens in good condition, no cracks no, chips, no major scratches. we can buff out minor surface scratches. let me know if you have any questions. |
