Just a quick post in memory of motorsport's greatest pilot ever, and a true gentleman, Ayrton Senna.
It was 12 years ago this month that Senna's steering wheel column broke, causing his fatal crash at Tamburello. I was one of the privilaged to see Senna take out the Adelaide F1 in 1993. His last race completed. May 1st '94 will remain motor racing's saddest day. Ayrton Senna da Silva 21.3.1960 - 1.5.1994 http://www.metacafe.com/watch/52822/...n_senna_crash/ |

In many people's opinion, it takes more than wins to make someone a champion. This event won most people's hearts. http://www.metacafe.com/watch/94156/heart_of_senna/ Whether he was the "most successfull" F1 driver, is obviously arguable. |

Senna was the most gifted driver I've seen in my life time.
What he did in that 2nd video was fairly common of him. He'd spent the night before the race with Rubens after his massive crash in practice & had the national flag of Roland Ratzenberger rolled up in his car to display in his honour after the race after he had been killed in practice the day before but tragically never lived to. Every car I've ever owned has had a Senna sticker on the window & every time I've raced I've had a Senna T-shirt underneath. |

Wow.. it really doesn't seem that many years ago...
There may very well be just as great drivers but I don't think anyone has ever touched F1 Racing fans like Senna did.... RIP

I remember I was just a kid and it was HUGE news to me as well. Very sad time in motorsport, and Renault's history. RIP Ayrton Senna

Seems like only a few years ago....
The shocking thing was that someone so good at driving a F1 car died in a F1 crash. I know it wasn't his fault etc etc but up until that point spectactors had seen huge F1 spills since the early 80's where drivers had smiply got out and walked away. It reminded us all that F1 is fast and deadly. |
