Default Ford Focus RS AWD First Photos

www.worldcarfans.com

As can be seen on these photos, Ford’s racing team is busy developing the hottest version of the Focus model range, the new RS. Almost on the last day of cold weather testing season, Ford came out with this prototype for a short test drive on a frozen lake in Sweden.

The test car has visibly big air intakes in the hood and stretched wheel arches to cover running gear from Volvo S60R saloon. As well as the four-wheel-drive transmission, the Focus RS also gets the S 60 R‘s turbocharged 5 cyl. engine, this one with a bigger turbo, estimated to deliver around 300 HP. However, Ford is expected to limit the performance car’s top speed to approximately 155 mph.

Not much has been said about the release of the new RS, rumours suggest a launch by the end of 2007 and a price tag of 25.000 British Pounds.

Not bad, but we'll have to wait & see what it has when they do release it & if they do try to sell it over here.

That's my kind of toy. I doubt it would come over though, there's no established market here for a car of that style except maybe the Golf R32 (and that was a bit of a flop here). Unless for pure fantasy's sake FPV decided they wanted a slice of the Focus action.

I doubt It would come here, 25,000 pounds is like nearly AUD$65-70K. Thats alot for a Focus even with the popularity of the XR5 here. I dont know if people will buy it.

I'd get one no doubt. I think it'd only sell if it was priced at mid-40s though. Mmmm WRX eater, niiiiice.

A natural competitor to the Golf R32, and a very VERY promising bit of kit!

As for predicted price, a bit too early to tell how that will translate to $AUS. If we compare it to the forthcoming R32 for arguments sake, we have this :

UK RRP (6sp manual 5dr) = £21,567 (ex. VAT) -> AUS$52,014.35 -> AUS$57,215.79 (if we add 10% GST)

AU RRP (6sp manual 5dr) = $56,490 inc. GST

Pretty close really, but of course our local RRP excludes dealer delivery (which may sting!). I doubt that if we got the Focus RS over here, that it would be significantly more than the R32, purely on the basis of competition!

Isnt the RS more of a competitor to the EVO and STi? Thats what I always thought anyway.

XR5 in the same market as WRX, Golf GTi
RS in the market as WRX STi, Golf R32

Its really a WRC Focus for the road.

When the Mk1 RS was released in the UK, all 4500 were snapped up in 2 months i beleive, but thats the UK, home of the focus, and Australia hasnt quite become good friends with the Focii family yet, but with big brother XR5 now adopted, im sure the Focii in Oz wont have trouble finding friends now...

Not a bad looking car...looks like that there are twin exhausts out the back?...me like, I think that the majority will still probably buy the Golf or the small Merc range instead...

The Mighty Escort Cosworth....

That would be interesting if they did bring this back.... One would suggest it would be 'only $10k-12k more than the Xr5T, to remain competitive in the market place ;)

I know you would, I can't believe that you did to that Accent!
If it lobs in at around 50k I'll certainly be looking at one in a couple of years.
Cars cost more in England than here, so I would assume that at 25,000 pounds it wouldn't come here at an exact multiplication of the exchange rate. (Read hope)
