Tint is an accessorie not a mod, depending on the company you go with sometimes rims/alloy/mags are also an accessorie. which leave you with 2 mods exhaust and lowering.

Just Cars are good, but expensive, best advice is shop around see what you can do.

When I was shopping for my modded LS1 a few years ago, Shannons didn't want to know about it as they only insure 'special vehicles' and mine was a daily driver.

I used to have my GT insured with them and at the time they wouldn't insure my EF for the same reason as above. They may have changed now, but it wasn't the driver they were concerned about, only the car and it being a little more unique.

Your age is a concideration too.
If you get XR type suspnsion, exhaust and the mags are ford then you can try and get away with saying they're standard. I suggest you (everyone should do this) take photo's of your car incase it get's knocked off and never found. If you have a market value policy, this will increase the amount!

Tint is considered a mod by some companies.

I assume you have insurance now?
If so call the and ask what the differences to your policy it will make. Note the conversation in your policy booklet, just in case.
While on the subject of policy booklets, read it. Everyone should and you are mad if you haven't as it is your legal contract. It will have a 'definitions' section which'll show you what is a mod and what is an accessory.

Nope, shannons wont touch you if youre under 25...i hanging out to turn 25 :

from my experiences, just car are a rip off (one example: they wanted just over 3k a year to insure me in a TE50, where ford insure would do it for just over 1k & federation would do it for $950...)

if the only mods you want to do are lowering to xr6 hieght, rims, tint and maybe exhuast system i would say that you should be able to find someone from the mainstream to do it. Just watch your rim size (dia. & width) as there are restrictions on how much bigger than standard you can go.

Must say it amuses me as to how many of you say one company is bad and the other is not so bad.

Shannons, Just Cars, AAMI, Vero, Australian pensioners, Rac, ABBI,NTI, secure sentinel, depoist power, rent power and more newzealand companies are all owned and opperated by the Promina Group.

Ok, so the best thing for me to do is start calling them and asking all these questions. I just have alot of mates that are planing to do similar changes to there cars and none of them have realized that if u change something on the car they might tell you to jump. So Just car, aami, RACV are the ones on my list atm.. maybe HBA i think it was :| cant really remember exactly. ill start calling around and thanks for the help mates, was fairly informative. Im looking forward to going to meets and seeing what over people have done to there cars.

It amuses me that you think all of these would have the same guidelines. They don't. Some are specialists, some offer motor vehicle and other insurance. Just because they sit under a parent company, doesn't mean they all operate the same. For instance, if you can't get insurance through AAMI, they recommend you talk to Just Cars, because they know just cars will insure just about anyone or anything, at a price. Why do you think AAMI only allow 3 mods? It's so that as soon as you get the 4th mod, you're off to just cars and at least a doubling of your premium.

Yaw, you work in insurance just as I do. Surely you must hear stories from customers all the time that "such as such did this, and such and such company did that". Each company under the Promina Group would surely have its own guidelines and aim for a different type of risk/market.

I think your original advice in your post was best.

Just make sure Podes that you disclose all you've done to the car and read the policy documentation first before you commit to anything.

People that are ignorant to this stuff and get burnt when they should have done their homework first really have themselves to blame.

From what I can see of what you want done to your car, you should be able to find a general insurer eg not a modded car insurer, that should be able to help you out.

Yes I do understand this. You are missing the point.
All I was referring to is simply because you get ****ed at one insurance company and then say well don't go through them, you are unwittingly paying your money to the same people at the end of the day.

Oh Dez, AAMI do NOT consider tint a mod, and they accept unlimited mods providing the driver is over 25 and the mods are what they deem to be acceptable mods. They do however limit under 25 drivers to 1 mod, be that a perfomance mod or a cosmetic mod.

oh well.

all i know is that when i ticked tinted windows, they wouldn't cover me, and I thought that was BS.....if anything tinted windows stop people being able to clearly see whats in your car. that can only be a good thing in terms of security.

Yaw, as you are in the insurance business, can you tell me where i can find my rating , or do i have to call up?

I believe i started as rating 6 last year, and have re-newed my third party fire and theft at the start of this year......would i be rating 5 having made no claims? lower? still 6?

I was told 660 dollars for that.... what a load of crap! aami would do it for 480 or so.

Each company is different. Eg NRMA gives a rating based on years of driving whilst other insurers use years of policy held with no claims.

Some give you one year rating per comprehensive or tppd/ some say you need two years to get tppd for one extra level of rating.

I wasn't sure if you said you were with AAMI or not so maybe its best to speak to your insurer direct. They should all be able to provide statements saying how long you've held cover and how many claims if any you've had.

As Lox has stated its best talking with your insurer.
Third party with JCI or AAMI does not give a rating or ncb as such.
Guidelines to insurance can change overnight.
Third party property insurance can still count towards getting a rating when you look for comprehensive.

ok cool, i was just hoping to avoid a call if i didnt need to make 1.....i've never made a claim, and have been with them for 1 gull year, 2nd year now. the price dropped sinced last year, so maybe i went down to rating 5 or somethin.
