That would have been after Ford's price reductions too. The BA XR8 was $51k at the time, and adding options / auto / etc. would see it pass the $60k mark quite easily. Ditto the Fairmont Ghia, was over $50k, then reduced by about $6k.
In hindsight, what was cheap, was the last FG2 FPV's, with the GT and F6 being had for high 50s driveaway; or low 60s with the premium brakes. Even the asking price for the GT R-Spec and GT-F isn't doesn't look too bad now.

Absolutely. I paid $56,500 driveaway for one of the last 50 FGII GTs with leather, satnav and stripes.
Same money nowadays buys a mid range Thai special (that’s if I wanted one).

My i30 SX (base model) diesel manual cost me about $23,500 in Dec 2007. (I'm pretty sure that it was the cheapest diesel car in Oz at the time; the Polo was a bit more.)

Looking back, a new Falcon ute might have been better, but I was fixated on the low fuel use of the i30 diesel and willing to take a punt on its reliability/longevity.

in 2016 ... my SZII TS RWD Petrol Territory was $39,990 DA.
Only $2K more than that SY TX RWD Territory was listed above.

But since then prices have gone through the roof since local manufacturing disappeared.

When do you get delivery and if delivery is x months away do you pay the extra Toyota price increases over that period.
But that’s a very good price in todays market for a very fuel efficient car.

Looking at June delivery. We pushed for a locked price, but to no avail.
Cheers. She's looking forward to it. She wanted a Hybrid for her last Corolla ( 2021 ), but there was a six month wait, whereas she could get a petrol model, in her colour, in a week.

No. My comment was probably a bit convoluted.
In 2021, my wife wanted an Ascent Sport hybrid, but faced a six month wait. The dealership was able to get an Ascent Sport petrol model, in her preferred colour, immediately.
This time around, it's a five month wait. Irrespective of petrol of hybrid. Same for SX trim level.
Toyota have apparently put a hold on taking orders for ZR models.

That would be the Toyota website I got that from.

It's their quoted price.

It doesn't mean you can't negotiate a better price you know.

Gee I m glad you ve told me there is a wait. I had to buy a car by Dec 1 due to my earlier car being written off. Corolla hybrid at 32 would have made my short list but I assumed there was a long wait which there is.
Yeah decent buy at 32.
You didn’t say how much base model petrol Corolla was out of interest.

I really like the look of the current model Corolla, if they had a half decent engine under the bonnet it would be a goer for me as a daily, they love a naturally aspirated ****box though Toyota.

It's 2023, naturally aspirated engines should be considered a hate crime in this day and age

I've got a Corolla Hybrid lined up in Perth as a rental, curious to see what it's like, I won't be driving but I guarantee it's going to get the *** flogged out of it.

35 must be the Hybrid then. I just punched in Corolla hatch base model price and it gave me 35 DA. But then I see you can choose between Hybrid and Petrol, which is 32.7 DA. My bad.

Yes the petrol Corolla is 125 kw and 202 nm torque up over 4000 rpm about the same as the LW Focus engine back eight years ago in 2014.

I like the styling of Corolla hatch it looks sharp of course they dropped the 6 Mt quite a while ago now.
Be interested in your review of rental Rolla hybrid Franco.

I got a Golf GTI in 05 for $40k. They're $62k now. Equivalent to 2.5%pa price increase, or smack bang in the middle of the RBA's inflation target.

Well given they were around the mid $30K mark in 2016/2017 for the povvo spec models, they wouldn't have risen $20K and you wouldn't have $35K Corolla when you had $40K Falcon.

Doesn't feel that slow in reality but it is.
Hybrid Camry is a much better car.

She's only got 72KW, I think it does 5L/100km or there abouts which isn't that impressive on paper.

Yeah we've got the Camrys at work and they average 5L/100km, highway or city.
Full size car with a big boot.

Corollas are a little better, but considering the back seats are tiny and so is the boot not sure why youd bother.

13 seconds? I didn't think they made cars that accelerated that slow any more.

I bought my MY03 WRX in 2006 for $27k. The last time I had a service they said I could get $15k for my car easy. It's not more than what I bought it but certainly more than what I thought I could get for it
