Mods if this in the wrong place please feel free to move.
Hey guys I have just purchased a PS3, I haven't had a gaming machine for years so am not up with whats good versus whats crap in the way of games. I am looking for good racing games (V8 supercars are the obvious preference) and also some good strategy first person shooter games. Any advice and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks John |

Hey mate,
all I play is racing. Don't like the shooters much. Best driver so far is Racedriver Grid, followed by both in the Motorstorm series. : However, there is a new NFS out that looks quite good, so may stick my hand up for it. BTW, if you play online, watch out for those cheating bloody Yanks. They'll put you into the wall without hesitation. Have fun....

Grid is one of the best... theres not many good in the way of aussie racing.... but yea Grid is great fun, lots of races!
Check it out here. http://au.ps3.gamespy.com/playstatio.../880732p1.html Also, hold on to your socks for Grand Turismo 5 coming soon As for first person shooters, one of my favorites is Battlefield Bad Company... a good cast of charactors and alot of dark humor! http://au.ps3.gamespy.com/playstation-3/dice-project-2/ I'm sure once i get to work and wake up i will be able to give you a larger list of what games are good. Grand Theft Auto IV is also good, by the way :P

My Picks:
Need for Speed Shift: Physics are a bit off, but probably THE best racer for the PS3 to date. Burnout: Good fun to just speed around and cause some carnage. Metal Gear Solid 4: Just an all round amazing game, you won't be disappointed with this one. Killzone 2: Best 1st person shooter on the PS3 imho. Awesome graphics to boot as well. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: This is the ducks guts for online multiplayer. Fallout 3: Awesome action RPG, awesome graphics.

I enjoy games like that. I played Oblivion to death on the PS3 (made by the same developers as Fallout3) so I had to get Fallout, and same thing, played it to death...
It's one of those kinda games you have to be really into the genre to enjoy it. On another note, the Guitar Hero series are awesome fun if you have mates around!! Especially if you get a 'band' of four people happening!

Drakes Fortune - adventure/shooter (sequel soon to be released)
any of the Call of Duty series DiRT - rally game (great graphics) hit a rock wall and had rocks fall down and break my windscreen Fifa09...pretty fun with 3 friends Rock Band/Guitar Hero World Tour (beware, some of the drums go a bit dodgy after a while and your required to re-glue the sensors) |

the best by far is Grid for race driving games IMO
best shooters Call of Duty 5 with number 6 to come out on 10 of Nov only problem is the amount of cheat on the racing games where as the war games they cant get cheats etc (that i have seen) as for grid every race i have now they all jump the tight corners etc not as much fun but Pdiddy and i have had some awesome races on Grid online : :

Also, I really liked the WWE Smakdown Vs Raw 2009, if you like that sort of thing, plus DC V's Marvel was good for a laugh. We'll have to go again shortly Dazza. (so I can kick your a$$). :togo:

GH Metallica is a must if your into metal/rock and those sort of games of course (GH5 is crap, i just got it and it has a terrible song list). I can get my drumming fix from master of puppets on expert+ there. As said before MGS4 is an awesome game. But I am still waiting on the game responsible for me buying a PS3 and thats GT5. I really wish they would hurry up. |

A few I recommend:
-Resistance 1 & 2 - Awesome FPS games, if you only get one get the sequel. The ridiculous scale of some of the enemies you face will make your jaw hit the floor. -Metal Gear Solid 4 - You HAVE to get this. Simple as that, possibly the greatest game of this generation and one of the best of all time. -Uncharted - Some of the most fun i've ever had playing a game, awesome shooting mechanics with so much strategy and great AI. Some good puzzles and climbing thrown in for good measure. The sequel isn't far off either! -Dead Space - This is probably my personal favourite. Third person shooter with some of the most inventive weapons and gameplay i've seen in a while. The atmosphere is creepy as hell and taking everything apart limb by limb is as satisfying as it gets. So much to say, but you just have to play it. Zero gravity anyone? -Killzone 2 - A must buy FPS, insanely high production values, excellent AI, possibly the best online multiplayer and near perfect FPS gameplay. This is mandatory if you consider yourself a FPS fan at all. -Resident Evil 5 - Another must buy, Resident Evil 5 puts you straight into the deep end at the start and never lets you out. But it's all the more better, this game is as good as third person action gets. The enemies are insane, mostly African's injected with a form of virus that works like rabies and worse... The combat system is adrenaline pumping; who doesn't like to shoot someone in the face, run up and uppercut them and then stomp their head into a bloody mess? Anyway there are heaps of awesome games around that fill your criteria, those are just a few you HAVE to try. I think PS3 has the best range of truly quality games and exclusive games by now. As for racers? Eh. I'm waiting for GT5, its the only racing game you need (only game you need period, how many hours of my life I wasted on this series...).

Playing the 1st resistance game definitely made me go out and buy the 2nd. Although the storyline in the 1st is a bit more detailed. I liked it better than Killzone as a FPS. |

I can not believe that Warhawk has not been mentioned.
This game is the only reason I have a PS3. It is unbeatable !!! Otherwise, yeah I would recommend Fallout 3 - just as long as you are prepared for it to dominate your life for the next four to six weeks... |

Another vote for GTA IV - fantastic game, lots of driving and racing and you can play it forever (ever after you've finished the story line)

Well I am one of the tight bums who is waiting for GT5 to come out in a value pack, hopefully with a steering wheel too.
I got a PSP recently, thats keeping the edge off waiting (under rated piece of kit btw.)
