Build me a PC

Well its time to upgrade by once uber elite computer of 2001 is now completely obsolete so I need new machine. Im completely out of the loop on computer technology now and want your suggestions

So this is the drill i've got about 2K to 2.2K and need a decent gaming system.
It must be able to handle the latest games well and support my flight simming addiction and run XP Pro.

I would prefer an AMD System it must have at least 120GB of HDD space, a DVD burner, a regualar DVD Reader, Good Quality sound (not crappy AC 97'), 17" LCD Monitor and have a decent case. Id prefer good quality parts, id prefer quality over speed but I dont want a complete sloth.

Dont worry about speakers, printer or scanners, I've already got some good stuff.

All worked out pretty damn cheap, not much over $1k from memory

Damn sounds good. I was worried id have to fork out like 3K as I did in 2000.

Which LCD monitores should i be looking at ?

and Paul how does the 2 6600gt video cards go in SLi?

i really don't know much about the LCD screens, i just got it through work, staff discounted.

The cards run really good, no complaints at all, haven't had any issues with games (which is primarily what this system is for, for rendering and other such work i would go with a P4 h/t), they all run really well in high detail and decent resolutions, i run everything in 1280x1024 which is my LCD native resolution.

I would try and save a bit on the monitor,sound card and other stuff you can easily buy later. When building my last computer I found you can get all the best important parts for around 2000 but if you want it completed right now for that price you will have to compromise on some important parts that effect performance.

OCZ Gold PC-4000 EL 2048Mb/2Gb (2x1Gb) 3-4-4-8 - Id get 2gb battlefield 2 runs alot better with 2gb and im sure alot of games comming out soon will be the same. You could save ~$200 by not getting DDR 500 ram but personally I would get it because most new AMD CPUs will do atleast 10x250fsb.

At least everyone agree on most of the parts all good.

I might try to scrape up a few extra bucks in the next 2 weeks an get a 19" monitor instead.

Are you going to build the PC yourself? If not a computer like that will set you back a few grand.

If your not able to build it yourself I would not recomend buying one from any computer store. Drop me a PM.

K. sounds good. Well the only other advice ive got is do heaps of research on the parts especially the motherboard. Tomshardware.com is an excellent resource. sorry if you already know all this.
