Default TTV8 Ford Capri cruise to WSID before running mid-8's!

we had Vince Rigoli put an E85 tune in my brother's trusty old Ford Capri with the new quad cam 4L (240ci) V8 and went for a little testing yesterday out at WSID, it was only a short drive 15mins or so, she likes the longer scenic cruises much much more full street trim she weighs a little over 1400kgs (3100lbs) all we do is change the tyres and plugs, mufflers still stay on the car. the old girl loves her sweet new fuel and repaid us with 8 8-second passes which included 2 passes in the 8.4's a 8.48@159 and 8.49@160 she was running out of legs about 30m from the finish so she might have a half tenth and a mile or 2 left in it. car was getting down the track like a dream, thanks mostly in part to Mario Teuma his help getting her setup meant Joe could drive the car in the deep end with 2 fingers. in one of the passes we did, the roll bar padding came off after the launch and he was putting it back on while driving down the track, he still ran a 8.60 best 60' was a 1.291. we are already looking at improving those times in the very near future

the whistling noise u can hear is the torque converter

the passes, parental discretion is advised there is a little bit of swearing right at the end we got a tad excited

thanks mate. she was leaving beautifully. hopefully if things go to plan she can pick up a couple tenths. we were thinking drop the pipes at the next meet at WSID 16th October, he thinks they weigh about 40ks. we have never raced or tuned the car without mufflers he has always had them on so would be good to see if it made a big difference.

we dropped the exhaust now and let's make that low 8's now still driving to the track, just taking off the exhaust, tyres and changing plugs when we get there.

we had alot of critics saying u can't drive a low 8-second car to the track, high hp low cube automatic turbo cars take too long to spoil up you will never leave in time, turbo cars are too inconsistent, amongst a whole heap of other things. hopefully we can further dispel those truths and we see more turbo cars in Super Sedan/Bracket Racing.

4L Twin turbo (240ci) running 2 x GT35R's (4L XR6T has just 1), makes 800+rwhp so has a bit of power. boosts up easy enuff to cut good lights and even redlight V8's are not allowed to run NOS to help spool turbo's.

inconsistent, well it's still a new combo but we are working on it. it has only done 13 passes since the new E85 tune.
11 passes have been between 8.34 and 8.60, the 2 passes that weren't between were 1 was a back off and the 2nd because the track had oil on it and car blazed the tyres.
7 passes with the mufflers on 8.48-8.60
4 passes with mufflers off 8.34-8.46

8.44 pass (i say a nawty in it )

8.34 pass

8.46 Incar

8.44 in-car, this was 1st Round of elimination racing. we redlit by 6/100ths of a second, car started boosting too quick, you can hear he backed it off a little bit while staging. dialed in a 8.40 car ran a 8.44 so we were 4/100ths of a second off the time we wanted, not bad, some NA cars can't even do that.

yeah all of 3 weeks ago

didn't know know would be in Street Machine was the article by Mark Arblaster? Arby came over when we were at a street meet and had a chat. Joe's known him for a long time didn't think they would put it in, thought was more of a catchup chat.

Arby is a top bloke i remember a few Summernats ago jumping in and sticking up for Joe when he came 2nd in Tuff Street against so called ''street cars''

it has been, a big achievement the last few months, funnily enough, it's not enough for him he rings practically everyday saying he wants to go faster and what can he do i predict within the next 3-6 months it will be in the 7's or at least 8.0's-8.1's the thing is the quickr it gets the harder it is to remain a true street car. it's to the law by RTA and has the certificates for everything that has been done. biggest turbo engine allowed in a Capri was 4.2L so we got a 4L, if it was 420ci instead of 240ci things would be alot easier

the extra 400ci would be great. that will come in a couple years time, we want to do something similar to Campo's as much as i love the OHC cars they lack cubes, i don't think a DOHC car will run a 5-second pass though 1 is very close 6.19@233 and funnily enough it was a Ford modular engine.

Daz, she is leaving beautifully we have been fortunate that not much tweeking has been required, the car has always been like that from the get go as it was done properly from the start. both the Capri's we have are, they both run pretty much smack bang on the number for the power they make. we want to get mid 1.2 60's out of her in the very near future.

Good effort guys.
Wish our RTA laws over here in Vic were the same as yours!
Yours seem to be more laid back than ours...

thanks mate, not sure how bad they are over there. car passes in NSW without a problem, has engineer's certificates for everything. we consulted with a really good engineer, i think that is the problem in most cases the engineers don't tell people 100% how far they can go. that might be the next challenge after we get the Capri in the 7's. try to build a car that would be registerable in all states and see how fast we can go
