Hi all so im having a winge my ba ute has devoured its secon auto i seriously think that all manufacturers should have to run trans coolers out side the coolant system.
I went to the trouble of replacing box lines and radiator drove 40ks and im back to square one so not feeling the love today.

I had BA then a BF did 320k in that and stock standard never missed a beat until it decided to play doggy style with the car in front and BF got destroyed for that little indiscretion

I used to rip burnouts all the time in my ba. 230k on original auto, no problems at all.
Maybe you've just had bad luck.

As a forum member you should be well aware of the trans cooler issues of the BA and BF models. 2 Transmission fails is crazy really!
So what steps are you taking to ensure transmission number 3 doesnt fail? I'd advise either a standalone transmission cooler which bypasses the BA's radiator cooler, the standalone Davis Craig V8 cooler in my BF was good for 400,000km. I also had a BA which I didnt run a standalone cooler in, but just replaced the radiator to one which was near twice as thick and had a copper transmission cooler line instead of the aluminium stock one. There was nothing wrong with the original radiator I just swapped it out for peace of mind. |

If you used new parts, you should have some comeback

Unfortunately used parts so no recourse.
Current plans to fit external cooler and hydraulic filter with a thermo fan. And I own the stuff up as I neglected to research known issues for this vehicle. It just reinforced the statement that they stopped making good cars after 1980.

In all seriousness. I had a BF, I knew of the issues with the coolers and knew i could have one for $400ish. It was on the list to do. What do you think happened? I got a milkshake and had to spend thousands on a new trans. I still kick my self as to the massive waste of money that was. Ill never again own a late model (out of warranty) Falcon with a factory trans cooler. All cars have known issues - we just have to deal with them. |

FIL's BFII EGAS ute did over 500,000km on it .... original engine and auto ... and original heat exchanger ... auto never serviced.
Was a courier in Sydney as well. Kept and running pretty well and always loaded up. Luck of the draw really.

Did you replace the trany with a rebuilt one? You would need to have a conversation with the builder. Did you use one from the wreckers? Ahhh..that was likely 14 years old as well? Come on, what do you expect>

Ok it would seem that my venting my frustration has upset some people.
I'm in this situation due to my lack of reserch and funds i understand the points people have been making and agree it was more of a pressure realise and I apologize for any offense I may have caused.

Was there the same issues with the ba v8 fairlanes as well?
My guess is that there would have been, but are they more common than the I6? |

Don't get me wrong love the ute and yes it is 14year old.
But i have a matching numbers xc ute in storage that is bulk original and the only reason im not driving it is that i had a accident and damaged the right rear quarter. And i have never had the strawberry milkshake happen before. Just lucky i guess.
