I have heard of it done without taking the half shafts out, but given the room that you have under there, it is much easier with one or both half shafts out. Not sure about the sexuality of your rear suspension though?????

I am sure that you have tackled harder jobs mate. It is just a bit more time consuming than those with live rear axles are used to.

Have you got a new one to go in? I am sure that it will be worth it if you have.

Well I've tried again and no success probably will end up dropping the diff. Took out both drive shafts and still couldn't swap them. It's starting to really tick me off.

MMM, both drive shafts out? I certainly got mine changed with both shafts out! Took a bit of jiggling, but not too much.

Day-mow, did yoy try to loosen the front (verticle) diff bolt? It allows you to pull the front of the diff down. It may give you the clearance you need.

Hang in there - I'm sure we've all had days like this.
Would getting a prybar and levering the control arms help? May give you some more room to manouvre the bar out?
Just a thought.
